that's my 3d mark score and it's to my understanding that the Physics score is cpu power but correct me if i'm wrong

after looking at a few other scores with a phenom ii 965 it seems as if they make a pretty good couple;

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/3673677
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5304049

now my real question is whether or not it's worth making the upgrade (from looking at AnandTech benchmarks it's an upgrade in every possible way) or should i be waiting for something "newer"? my main concern is that at the moment and the foreseeable future i'm going to be VERY tight on money so going to an i5 isn't an option i could take at this moment

at the moment i've got it to ~£170 for mobo/ram/cpu but any suggestions on part changes are much appreciated

http://pcpartpicker.com/uk/p/yoME

also i've looked on ebay and i should be able to sell my cpu + ram for ~£80 if lucky so my upgrade cost will only be around £100, so would it be worth the upgrade even though it would only be "minor"? if i was to upgrade to this it would be for close to 2 years untill i can afford some major upgrades

any input from anyone with a 965 is greatly appreciated, i'd love to see how you can handle games

to be real blunt... Save your money. no need to spend money when you dont have the money to spend especially when being a PC enthusiast is such an expensive hobby.

cant do much with £170 at all. not unless you want to go after a real cheap AMD A4/A6 system which wouldnt be an upgrade for you at all.

Whats the rest of your system spec? maybe we can improve it in other areas and try to take some of the pressure off such adding in an SSD maybe

It all depends what you want out of your system and what you use it for. The 965 will handle anything out there but the FX-8350 is a better overall CPU. Some apps, performance is the same or close but like mentioned, 8350 is a pretty good CPU. It(8350) matches up with Intel's core i5 pretty good also.

Quit trolling and move on pls.

Im trying to help - I have given him the best advice and thats to save his money or put it into other areas that might need improvement.

what did you suggest?? that the OP gets a 8350 which costs £160 here when he only has £127 to spend.

now whose doing the trolling??

as the OP stated, he only has £127 to spend on mobo, ram & CPU - if he sells his current rig he could get another £80 but its still not going to be enough for anything serious

well my budget is ~£200 but i've managed to find a phenom 965/asrock extreme3 990fx mobo and 4gb of ram for sub £170

i've already got an ssd but on my current mobo (a packard bell one) it's only a slight increase and the main issue is cpu bound, games like gw2, farcry and skyrim all give me low fps

i've been fine with my current setup for the whole time i've had it but i think keeping it for another year or 2 isn't going to cut it, i'd much rather upgrade slightly now while i'm still able to sell my old parts on ebay because i don't think they'll be worth as much in a year as they are now and when i have the £ for a proper upgrade i can then sell the 965+mobo

as the OP stated, he only has £127 to spend on mobo, ram & CPU - if he sells his current rig he could get another £80 but its still not going to be enough for anything serious

i actually have about £180 to spare right now but i won't be able to get another £80 untill i sell my stuff (which i won't be doing untill i have another pc to fallback on)

965 is still a decent CPU and will handle most everything. You always have an upgrade path too with AMD with that mobo.

Then get the 965 setup. do you have the PSU and case covered??

:EDIT:

If you are moving over from a pre-built system, their case or choice of powersupply might be suitable for your new hardware.

yup, slowly been upgrading slightly whenever i get the spare change to do so, is there a motherboard you can suggest?

there's an asrock 970 one for £52, which saves me £30 or should i stick to 990fx for better upgrade options?

990FX of course but if youre on a tight budget then the 970 will still work and support your CPU and any AM3+ CPU when you have more money to upgrade
