I recently purchased an Intel 520 Cherryville 120 gb and I am already itching to put it in a raid 0 setup. Only thing is that my local best buy only has the Intel 520 (non cherryville) variant.

My question is simply, will there be any issues with them not both being "cherryville" versions? I assume they will work fine but this is my first time delving into using ssd's and I want to make sure I am on the right track.

Also, since I am a total noob to ssd's any advice, comments, or suggested benching software would be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, please don't advise me to purchase another brand. I purchased the ssd on a whim and from what I have read so far intel seems to at least offer reliability.

Thought I'd mention...If you go over to FatWallet, they've got a decent rebate on these from TigerDirect for $99.

Good drives...:)

Thanks for the link, but I honestly am not one for mail-in rebates. For some reason I always seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to them. Now that I think about it I never got my rebate for the tires I purchased around this time last year!

I've never 'not' had an Intel rebate come back...maybe I'm lucky. Since it's a pretty large one, I thought I'd mention it. Might be good for someone on a tight budget that couldn't afford to pay full retail. These do carry a decent premium over say...purchasing a regular Samsung 840 on sale for 80 or 90.

:)

Good luck with raid of these drives, it does sound like fun!

there's no such thing as a non-cherryville, they are both the same, what changes is the package (ie comes with bracket or not etc), in this case the A3K5 has a "Desktop installation kit" which is a fancy way to say 3.5" bracket, which is useless basically

also, buying online is usually always cheaper and you can usually skip on tax as well when buying online. check newegg.com and bing.com/shopping

Thank you for the clarification, I kind of figured that was the case as my online searches didn't produce anything regarding their "differences". I know that I could buy online for a cheaper price but if it is tied in with a rebate then I tend to not bother. From what I have seen these drives are all fairly close in price but obviously best buy is the most expensive.

I definitely regret not purchasing one of these drives before xmas. Best buy had the 180 gb variant for $124.99 but I passed it up to purchase my Samsung Note 2!

I always look at prices before MIR, and it usually is a great deal cheaper, plus you don't have to pay tax or gas money, it gets shipped to your house directly, so if you have the patience, there is virtual no reason not to buy online... However right now there aren't any US deals as far as I can tell, so in this rare case the price difference is indeed less than 10%

I've seen the 120gb at 99.99 I think during a Black Friday or Cyber Monday sale at Best Buy actually, but a fair price would be 129.99

I've seen Tigerdirect.com do quite a few sales on intel SSDs, just in case you're willing to wait a while
