The 6+2 board uses a chip to double the ancient 3+1 design its not a "true" 6+2.

Nearly any board does that, if it has more than 4 or 6 phases. They don't make 8- or 12- channel VRM controllers.

Ergo, any board has "true" phases, just not separate independent control, which really, is only important for power-saving, not power-delivery.

(4+4+2) means that of 8 phases, each are grouped in pairs so that only a pair can be shut down when not needed. Input driver, MOSFET, chokes and caps are all still there. This means you could have just two phases going, or 4, or 6, or 8, but not 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 or 8.

Ugh, compared to the 8+2 (which is 4+1 x2) i think the gigabyte model would be better. Heh, that page i mentioned previously did say that only ATi had once released a true 6 phase motherboard and no one has done so after (2009 comment though), so I figured Asus might have caught up with that and all.

I have on the table an offer for 990X chip - Asus M5A99X EVO.

Is it worth it? its still 6+2 according to that spreadsheet. I heard the 990 chip runs cooler than the 970.

That chinese prod comment got me thinking twice about now -_-

I have no issues with my M5A99X Evo (knocks wood)- ran an FX-8150 and am currently running an FX-8350 (+400Mhz overclock on both). I like the board and it runs great but am a little hesitant to buy another due to the ASUS customer services issues out there. I would say if you are getting a decent deal and the warranty is still valid then go for it

Guys i have same dilemma im between

Another problem is i need 2 free pci-e x1 slots for x-fi and dvb-s2 card im planning to put and this msi looks like has nice layout

Asus has digi vrm and gigabyte is 40$ cheaper .Ill use mobo with 965Be for now and want to upgrade cpu when steamroller hits the market ,oc capability is a criter with stability .

What do you think ? Ill just move everything else from current setup except cpu/mobo

Oh an update. I went for the M5A99X Evo R2.0

It was either that or the Gigabyte 990 UD5H motherboard which was more expensive... no 970 chipset options anywhere.

@jagd: I would not recommend the Asrock extreme 3 motherboard as its 4+1 phase. Go with the extreme4 or gigabyte 990XA-UD3 if you want 8+2 phase. 8+2 phase is best for overclocking and support for high watt cpu's (even if at stock).

The asus motherboard is pretty neat too, with LED indicators on the motherboard each for (CPU, DRAM, VGA, Boot Device LED), some bells and whistles here and there even though its 6+2 phase. The bios is pretty awesome too (but cant compare with the Gigabyte EFI - never experienced it).

I read in the TPU review that it the M5A99X would restart when the cpu was drawing too much power on the 1100T. I hope it's not the case with me

We also noticed that intensive loads would cause the system to reboot, with the Phenom II 1100T pulling over 275 watts, causing the board shutdown. After experiencing this behavior, we investigated the board's VRM closely, to find no damage, telling us that the board's over-current protection works very well indeed. Showing higher results than we noticed with the M5A97 EVO really highlights just what you get from the M5A99X EVO, however we did use the same overclock settings as with the M5A97 EVO, albeit with lower voltages needed on the ASUS M5A99X EVO to maintain stability.

Why are you changing your board? The one you have listed in your specs is fine and you will not get any better performance with a new one unless I missed something in the thread...

for me, i need uefi and new connectivity. SLI or xfire maybe if i have more cash
and i wanna try Asrock
