Hello, Im new to this forum so hello everyone.
I've got a little problem.
I bought a ASUS HD4850(but with some shitty fan actualy, not the glaciator) and Chieftec 450W.
My problem is:
When I was playing Batman Arkham Asylum, my screen went black, comp lagged and i reseted the computer. For my bad, screen even at boot is black, card is normally starting, fan start, but there's no screen on monitor.
BTW. Temperature of this card was about 70*C(!) at idle and 110*C(!) at playing for like 2-3 minutes. (then it restarted).
Any possible solutions of this?
Sorry for bad english.

First try to blow the dust out of the heatsink--something like compressed air works well, although even just blowing hard with your mouth can help a great deal too.

If that doesn't work, I'd suggest reseating the heatsink with new thermal paste (make sure to clean off the old stuff first) :toast:

Thanks for reply.
Yea, I forget to mention, that I've done this. But it really doesn't help too much ;c.
Now, when I insert the HD4850 into slot(I have another card now, but it dont need 6pin) the screen is black, but fan is normally starting, but the screen is still black ;c

I'd try another PSU if possible as it does sound like a bad PSU issue....It also sounds like the card died...

If you know someone that has a PC with a decent PSU see if you can just boot with your card to the bios....if not its the card.

If the HD4850 is the single slot reference version, it is not uncommon for the idle temperature to be around 70-80 degC and max temp can reach 110degC in certain games on a warn day.

What is the PSU?

I have never seen this type of cooler on an ASUS HD4850 so there is a possibility the seller may have done some tinkering with the card for some reason so who knows what the card has been through before you bought it.

I still think the PSU has failed rather than the HD4850 since the computer now sends no signal with a different card.

It's Asus but with another cooler, idk why the seller put this cooler, but as you said, idk what card has been through before i bought it.
I think u got me wrong. Im using ati x1550 now, it doesn't need the 6pin, everything is ok with it, but the HD4850 need, and when i insert the HD4850 into the slot, the screen is black at the boot, as I said before. And because all of that I use x1550 now.

YEs I did not understand what you meant before.

Now it does sound like the card has failed.

If buying used it is immediately suspicious if the seller has replaced the cooler with something of less performance than stock.

I have a feeling your card may have had a failed cooler which they replaced, tested it for a few minutes to see the cooler worked then put it up for sale.

The ASUS card with aftermarket cooling were still poorly cooled compared to the reference.
All the cooling was focused on the core and little to none on other critical components which were know to get very hot on the card.

The VRMs etc. ran pretty warm too indeed. Hence the reference cooler that covered the entire card (when they came out). Asus and others tried to sell revised editions with "improved" cooling but those might only have cooled the GPU slightly better and often removed any cooling the VRAM chips and electrical components would have got if the reference cooling had been used.

I dunno those cards can handle 100c easily....the 4800 series were hot running cards...I still have a 4830 that idles at 55c.... 80-95c is normal for game play.
I had 1 Cheiftec PSU and it had like 5 rails or something LOL anyways the rail for the GFX went on it after 2 weeks with a x1800XL and it did the same thing...the pc came on the fan sounded like a vacuum and all I had was a black screen but a HIS x1600pro I had worked just fine....

Yes which is why it made me wonder why ASUS went ahead with those after market coolers.
It's almost as if they never tested the card and assumed it would be all good without VRM and RAM sink cooling.

The core on my HD4850 would in some cases get up to 110degC with the reference cooler without ever failing.

I installed an AC Twin Turbo on it and decided to try running the GPU passive.
The card hit 85degC and it black screened.
Red LED lit up on the back suggested thermal shutdown.

It's pretty sad, cause I didn't play that much really, and now I must torture myself on this x1550, before I get some cash and buy next graphic card. I think I'll buy used 9600GT/9800GT(the budget is low ;c) cause the HD4800 seems to be hot series, and I'll tell the seller to give me some screens with temperature etc, cause 9600GT/9800GT seems to be enough for me at this day xD

I bought a OEM HD4850 a few years back and it worked for only about two weeks before it started showing green pixels scattered all over the screen. Fortunately, I was able to get my money back on it and put the money towards a HD6870. Are you able to return this one, because it sounds to me like it's dead.

I have owned and sold lots of HD 4850's they have always lasted longer than the nvidia 8800/9800/200 series.

ATI cards have always handled the heat better than the nvidia cards like people have said you could run them at 110c 24/7 without any issues.
