Hi everybody!

Today is awesome as components are going to start arriving for my first computer ever!

1. 8350
2. Msi gd65 990fx
3. nzxt kraken x40

4.corsair vengense 1600 8gb single module (2nd question about this) CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600...

5. sentey optimus 6000 (4 fans.3 led x2 120mm x1 140mm x1 180mm)
6 7950 saphire
7. kingston heyper x 3k

8. XFX pro core edition 550 watts (1st question about this)
XFX Core Edition PRO550W (P1-550S-XXB9) 550W ATX12...

The first question is in regards to the power supply. Will it be enough given the liquid cooler and case fans, on top of the 8350 and 7950? The wattage calculators online all say yes, but reading reviews about the cpu and gpu, I see on some charts that they both can consume a combined 500 watts just those 2! I figured the 8350 was 125w and the 7950 was 180w like their specification sheets display, so going by that, I ordered my build. Please help clairify.

Question number 2 is about the ram. It's 1 8gb module. From all the research I've done and from what everyone says, dual channel is better than single channel though I've not been able to find a review about a single 8gb module performance (though there are reviews testing single, dual, tri, and quad.) I don't think win7 and games will use more than 8gb but as it's single channel, what kind of effect will it have on performance?

I got the ram free with the mobo from newegg otherwise I would've for sure gone with 2x4 or 2x8.

I'm really on a budget as I've saved for 9 months of working to build a pc that will last me.... well a long time. This is my first computer though I've wanted since 12 (now 27). I really need to know about how these two things will affect my system. Thank you so much!!!!!:respect:

Thanks jester

Thank you jester! In directing me here in the first place :) But I would still like a little more technical feedback, just because I done spent a whole lot of money (to me) on parts that have to last me for the forseeable future... Thank you again for letting me know how to post!

Looks good to me. Personally i overdo it on AMD systems. With my old 8350 with SLI 570's build i used an 850watt. 550Watt is cutting it close, I'd feel more comfortable on 650watt with that system in honesty. No sense in limiting yourself, and make sure its rated.

hmmm

I'm stressing out.. I don't have the money to buy another one on top of the one I just bought (students fixed income) so I'll have to return the xfx one to newegg and get another 650?

No need to panic. I've run a calculator of your system specs, added the additional load of an additonal HDD if you had one, and tested the power consumption at 100% load on all components at STOCK. Came out at just under 500Watts. You'll be fine, just dont overclock too much, and dont expect to be able to add another GPU :toast:
NOTE: I sincerely doubt you will hit 100% load on all components at once, so you have headroom.

I would also consider Corsair or G.Skill Ripjaw base on DDR3-1866 with 8GB x2 and the Sapphire Radeon hd 7950 or 7970 for a little extra is good too. :)

His budget is dead tight, i dont think stretching to those is a possibility, he's getting the ram from a bundle.

Nice Build On A Tight Budget

I guess you already took the plunge and ordered all those parts, so reassurance is needed more than advice! You can stop worrying, it will run fine. 1600 MHz is fast enough that you won't even notice it's running single channel (for most tasks). The XFX Core Edition Pro 550 is built by Seasonic, which means it's very high quality and rated conservatively. It also has many kinds of protections built in, so even if you were to push your system hard, like when benchmarking, mild overclocking, or hard core gaming, it will probably run for years pushing 500+ watts (not that I would rely on such a small margin for that long).
Have fun with your first build - hope all your parts arrive in good shape, I know you're anxious to get on with it. Just take the time to read all instructions, especially the motherboard manual, all it takes is one mistake to get a no-boot or blank screen that will surely ruin your day. Good Luck!

Thanks

Thank you so much for your reassurance. It brought some much appreciated peace of mind. I will indeed rea the instructions of all the components fully, I'm really excited to build it and I thank all of you who commented. I hope it works!

Anyways, thank you Hood and Rcoon! I will come back If I encounter any unknowns. Thank you.
