These weren't really the best examples and it was hard to tell which is which, as judder was actually visible on every animation and each animation was too short.

Proper 60Hz animation locked to vsync wouldn't have judder and will look clearly fluid, while anything else, such as "near 60Hz" like it says on the website will show judder.

I got 2/3 correct. The first one I could not really see a difference. I am someone who thinks 30fps or so is fine for single player games but want more for multiplayer... probably like most. The other two were clear.

I could clearly see which is which. Besides, it's far more visible in actual real-time motion, especially when you have the control (opposed to flyby).

The more motion there is, the easier it is to tell, which is why small GIFs aren't good examples compared to full-screen games. Even on these I could see the judder of the lower framerate though.

Could barely see any difference and at a guess I managed to get 2/3 right. For me there isn't that much of a difference to write home about.

Following on from my comment above, looking at these again and sitting a bit closer to the screen, it's now more obvious which one is the 60Hz version.

However, the first comment still applies and there's still a lot of judder on that fast moving sword. Looking at the main body movements shows the most improvement.

It's not judder, but the overall smoothness of animation. Thats why we, hardcore gamers notice the difference. And this is especially noticeable in FPS games where even constant 30fps feels like you're trapped in a slow motion game.

That's the main reason why I still play QuakeLive on my CRT, smoothness.

Or you can simply play Far Cry 3 and set the Vsync to "Every two frames" for 30fps cap, then set "Every frame" for 60fps cap. Then you indeed notice the difference.

On the videos posted by the OP you can clearly notice that, when movement of the character is fast, it is not fluid at 30fps.

However for the 60 vs 120 Hz refresh rates I'd still say its worth staying 60Hz and getting a real IPS screen. The colours are so much better...

That'll do it. Looks horrible with tons of judder, doesn't it?

Also, nvidia's driver now has the same option in it. It's called "Adaptive (half refresh rate)".

I partially agree.

On fast paced multi player games, mostly FPS, a 120hz is miles ahead.

On everything else IPS is MUCH more enjoyable.

They are not moving ,they are just in animation. Gamer enthusiasts (who spent their whole life playing hundreds - but most likely thousands - of games) or pro gamers with sharpened perception skills are more sensitive to motions on the screen which means cases where the camera turning/panning and/or when objects moving on the screen in any direction. The framerate of the animation is not as important as how moving objects/scene is.

Hopefully this will put to rest many theories how of many fps the human eye can see.

http://hiresreset.tumblr.com/post/47287084062/space-left-intentionally-blank

Actually the easiest test is to get MSI Afterburner or any other program out there that can limit the FPS at a desired value. Then you play a game at a locked 30FPS for 15-20 minutes and afterwards you switch to 60FPS and go event beyond if the monitor can manage 60hz+.

That's the ideal situation with a constant FPS and frame time, but if you average value is 30, the FPS would be much more choppy and the gameplay a pain in the behind with mouse and keyboard.

What that guy showed on that site is how you can manipulate the variables in order to have the desired outcome.

Got all of them right by looking at the sword.

Of course 60 fps is most noticeable when view is controlled by high dpi mouse input.

That's the main reason why I still play QuakeLive on my CRT, smoothness.

How's that phosphor doing after the years? My blurry pixeled tubes are all long long gone.

You can get $1K+ professional CRTs for less than $50 nowadays, and some of them was just standing unused in a factory storage room, and the owners have no idea how valuable the "big heavy box" really is what they are trying to get rid of so desperately.
I also still play Quakeworld and Quakelive (among the many other modern fps games ofc, but they are still the only chess-like fps games after all, metagame wise), so I bought some good CRT monitors just to be safe until some better technology arrives.
I use them next to my main IPS monitors on all of my systems, and I can honestly tell you these things were not that expensive just because by accident, they do deliver. It's really a pleasing experience when you switch to them right after watching the IPS ones.

I don't know why CRTs have been replaced in the first place...

I mean my eyes bled with the first LCDs that came out, it's better now but they are still miles behind good CRTs.

How's that phosphor doing after the years? My blurry pixeled tubes are all long long gone.

I still have some new unused monitors laying around that were "thrown" at me because of clearance.

The one I use atm has 1 year of usage so it's rocking like a boss.

Even though I got them right, those animations are very bad examples of 30fps vs. 60fps. ANYONE who has played a 3D first person perspective will know that 30fps has landscape+building judder whereas 60fps is smoother. These examples also have the "movement" in relatively small, thin, low brightness, grey sword swoops. You put a racing sim on there and it would be total obvious experience. Shame on the poster of those .gifs wasting everyone's time.

Software A lot.
Benchmark Scores Its fast. Enough.
I got 2/3, the middle image had some "blur" from the sword movement that I took as actual effect. A link to more images some of which are much better.

I still have my old CRT, and i used it for years after LCD's hit the market as the pixel bleed, colors, and much else were horrible at first. Looking at a twin of my original monitor VS my TV that I use now makes even it seem poor in image. But I love my TV as a monitor despite even having a 27" monitor I could use.

60fps all but guarantees you stay away from below 24fps when the action heats up.

Easy to tell by looking at the swords or other things in fast motion. The more swords you see during a swing is the image with the higher FPS.
