Asus Maximus V Formula or Formula/ThunderFX

hmm is it worth it, buying the ThunderFX version of the Formula board to get the external audio box, and give it to my wife when she will be able to use her computer when it's done instead of the onboard Realtek ALC889 or just buying a cheaper card sometime and through that in?

bcs i won't be needing it since i got a Asus Xonar Essence STX i use.

alc

Just from starting with the alc on board when i built my pc with a sabertooth z77. the alc is not good, it crackles, and pops when using head phones so i just bought the soundblaster z for $119. the difference is so much better it was crazy. Go with anything besides the onboard alc 889

ThunderFX box is good, but lacks volume, IMHO. BEing USB powered, I'm not surprised about that, though.

i got a Asus Xonar Essence STX for myself, i dunno what my wife would prefer to be honest, she has always have onboard, but i guess i will see :laugh:
