Recently I built a few towers for a few graphics designers, and they loved them!

3770k, 4x8gb of ram, ssd, GT 640 for after work CS:GO  and duel monitors

Anyway, the shop owner was blown away by how fast they are and demands one of his own that will handle his work load for years to come. (LGA 2011 anyone:))
(Note, he currently has a rip station with an i7 2600)

Here seems to be my issue with the build...

#1 - The spot for the desktop in his desk is not open in the back, top, or sides. (only in the front)
#2 - He will tuck it on the left side of the cabinet, covering standard-ATX side vents. Should I look into a reverse atx case?

I'm thinking a Closed Watercooling system for the CPU (H100?)

Any input would be greatful!

Ideally a case that will fit a H100 or H110 in the front of the chassis where HDD fans usually go, and you want it exhausting everything.

Usually that is true, but by how the project sounds your going to need to be a bit more creative with airflow. It is better to have an exhaust than an intake if you had to choose one or the other. It sounds like you are restricted on where you can get airflow so having an h100 exhaust out the front may be the best route.

usually it is the opposite... it is better to have intake than exhaust with water cooling.

You are in fact right. I was not thinking of it as watercooling. A radiator performs best with cool air being taken into it, and cooler air is outside the case, so as an intake. For best cpu temps that would be ideal. I was thinking of case airflow. If the front is the only place he can have good airflow, it think it may be better to have negative pressure using an h100 has exhaust in the front to get the best overall case temps.

The spot for the desktop in his desk is not open in the back, top, or sides. (only in the front)

I am mostly paraphrasing this article from memory.

Specifically this:
Generally, all other things being equal, it’s better to get hot air out of your case than to pump cool air in, particularly when it comes to CPU cooling.

I suggest the HAF XB case. Lots of options for airflow.

There is a good 6 inches ontop of the current case that is in there (I think it's a fullsize atx)

Heat rises so I'll go with a front mount cooler and 2 140mm fans on the top for exhaust.
Leaning towards a Fractal R4

Thanks you guys!

Cut holes in the desk for ventilation..
I'm sure it can be made to look nice.
Maybe add a door or something.

do one of those oil filled builds, and use an ssd and submerge everything.

seal an acrylic case and take all fans off.

that way he'll be amazed and you start a business.

Just front intake and rear exhaust will be fine - there has to be space between the back of the case and the wall for cables anyway.

E.g. CoolerMaster Silencio 550, Nanoxia Deep Silence.

I built it and installed it already. there is about 1cm between the top of the case and the cabinet. I stressed out the system and it got to a whopping 45degrees. :toast:
