Hi. Last year I bought an EVGA Gtx 480 (fermi) 1.5gb. I bought it for about $230.

Today, I'm looking for a second one for SLI, but the model is around $500 as it is discontinued on newegg.

Do you know of anywhere I can find a second one for around the original price?

Thanks!

Two places I can think of would be eBay and maybe the EVGA store in the b-stock section, but it seems I am having issues connecting to their server at the moment.

A sli of GTX 480 is not worth it in 2013... The performance is not that good, the heat is very high and the power consumption is one of the worst of the industry.

You should sell that card and buy a single HD 7950 or GTX 660 Ti.

Thing is, I'm gonna' watercool my rig. So for one, heat is not and issue, and two, my PSU is sufficiant for two of the cards.

I just am wondering where I can find another one.

So you want to buy a $230 card + $50 GPU watercooling block. If you sell your GTX 480 for $150 and keep the same budget, you would have $430 for a new GPU... You could buy a HD 7970GHz or a GTX 680... And just so you know, a GTX 680 as the same perf as 2x GTX 480, but consume less, produce less heat, overclock better and have better drivers. The only place where 2x GTX 480 would win is in benchmarks. If you want the best performance gain, buy a HD 7970GHz and overclock it.

Hmm. I guess that is a good concept. Just trying to find a good GPU that will last a while. My 480 is great, but not cheap anymore.

I wouldn't spend hundreds of dollars to watercool those GPUs, not worth it at this point. Don't bother with SLI on them, just get a single new current gen GPU. Performance and gameplay will be better. Smoother, etc. No dual GPU stuttering and other issues.

I agree with the others, a current generation high-end card is better than a dual GPU setup of 3 year old GPUs, especially some of the hottest, most power hungry GPUs.

Yeah just one consumes like 320 watts under full load iirc...don't forget about the power bills. Though you can find them pretty cheap these days if you don't mind used. I even have one I haven't gotten around to selling.

Bah, I'd get a 2nd 480 if I could find one of the dam things! I paid $179can for a brand new one, so I would expect to pay less for a 2nd. Yes, hot and noisy, but they still pack a bit of a punch. I wear headphones so I don't have to hear mine when gaming....

Also the mega galactic heat produced. Is like a SUN little as a graphics card lightning inside your case.

I still like playing stuff on my set of GTX 470's they are watercooled and overclocked a good bit. No problems with most modern games. They can be had cheap online used.

My 480 sli at stock performs about the same as a 680 depending on the game/settings. It looks like a 680 can be had for ~400$ new, and that includes a metro last light coupon (50$ value)

so lets say you were already going to purchase the game, and you were going to pay another 230$ for another 480, you'd be at 280$, (or say you don't lkike metro but were going to pay 50$ for a water block) assuming you could sell your current 480 for at least 120$ it would be net positive based on power, heat, and noise differences. Not to mention single cards avoid micro-stuttering. (not that I've seen any on my 480's just that its common knowledge single cards do better with that)

I'm not saying 480 sli is a bad solution, heck I run it and love em. I'm just saying at this point, going for a 3 year old, 4 series back solution doesn't seem like a wise use of money.

The noise isn't that bad, but dat heat. Dat heat.

Personally, I've been considering selling my X58/GTX 480 SLI rig before it reaches the point where it's essentially worthless. It's not that I don't love it. It's plenty enough for anything at 1080p and powerful enough to deliver a good experience at the 5000x900 I play at normally. But after 15 minutes an average size room will be noticeably warmer. At 30 minutes and beyond the room grows progressively more uncomfortable. My case has no sidepanel fans or vents, and the 480's proximity to the PSU dramatically heats the PSU's casing. I have to run with a custom fan profile because if I don't, they hover @90C under load. Sure, that's within Nvidia's specs, but it raises questions about longevity.

If you've got a well ventilated case, game either in an air conditioned room, aren't bothered by heat, or live in Alaska, and have the PSU to handle it, another 480 might be a decent purchase. As others have said, though, I would seriously consider selling your current card and dropping down to a single card setup of a 28nm card. Given the price your liable to get for your 480, it might be somewhat of a downgrade performance wise when compared to 2 480's, but you'll get more VRAM for future-proofing and drop a couple hundred watts. Even at 1080p, I don't suspect that 1.5GB will be enough for high/ultra settings for much longer.

Wow, i would never SLI a GTX480!!

It was tested in anandtech as the most power damning single core video card of all time - 320 W at peak, 70 W more than "officialy" stated by nvidia! A rip off! You want to have a SLI of 650 W power draw jut from video cards? Are you nuts?

Performance wise the GTX480 might be worth 230 $, but if you take things in considerations like older technology, no warranty and abysmal power consumption - it surely is 150 $ a card, no more.

And whoever said GTX680 is twice faster - it is not, only on paper, in reality is it only 50 % faster than single GTX480 and SLI GTX480 would trade wins and loses with GTX680 in many games.
