CPU Failing? PSU?

When I OC my CPU my video stutters.

Unigine Valley will stutter and give me a score in the 600's

When I leave the CPU at stock speed and voltages everything runs fine and Valley will score 1563 with no hiccups.

The MB and CPU are less than 2 months old.

My PSU is an Antec EA 650 which is about 3-4 years old.

Is it possible the PSU is getting weak?

It sounds more like your CPU is overheating and is throttling, but it's possible that the PSU is struggling. Normally if the PSU is having trouble I see machines just shut off or restart, not slow down.

Edit: I just noticed that PSU has 3 x +12v rails (!!) maybe you're overloading one of the rails while the others are left unused?

I just built this system not long ago, but, I did not buy a new PSU.

The MB, CPU, RAM, SSD is all new.

I just ran a Far Cry 2 Benchmark with an average of 100 fps with no issues.

If I try to OC the CPU it will not load (FC 2 BM) and it will fail.

I have a CM 212 hyper + with a push/pull fan setup and the CPU is not breaking the high 40's right now. So the temps are fine.

Maybe time for a new PSU?

Yeah, I'm inclined to think that it's the PSU.

I don't want to be the only person to say so though. I'm sure someone else can chime in with a confirmation or a better idea.

If it is the PSU, I would get a nice one. After all, it provides power to your entire rig. I would personally find one with one big +12v rail as opposed to multiple smaller ones.

I have a total of five 120mm fans and two 140mm fans along with a Samsung 840 250GB SSD and a Seagate 500GB HDD.

Graphics is an MSI GTX 560 Ti 448 OC/PE twin frozr 3

If your CPU was failing you would be having a lot more trouble than you are now. I seriously doubt your CPU is to blame.

Seems like a PSU issue to me. It's old, it uses 3 12v rails and it's possible that possibly your GPU isn't being run through one of them... Maybe. Your issues do sound like PSU though, I've seen this issue, the way you describe it before.

CPU failing would start crashing and sporadically giving you 0x124 Blue Screens all the time.
Usually if your system isnt getting enough power it just locks up and shuts off though.

I guess it's time to buy a new PSU lol

It runs fine....as long as I don't OC the CPU.

As soon as I do that, it acts all goofy.
