What do you use for your rig? If your gaming stick with the 4770k, if you do anything that needs the extra cores/threads, the 980x may not be too bad.

Keep the 4770K, much newer tech, 2 less cores won't hurt at all.

Yeah just keep your 4770k. Overclock it and you will be good.

I only have 8 gigabyte ram now and i would be getting 24 gigabyte and keeping my 8 gig also this system is fast as hell now but 6 cores sounds so much better lol

The 980x is the original gen Core technology, like 6 years old now, those 2 extra cores won't help. If you need more ram, just save for that.

Yeah keep the 4770k and buy more ram if you feel you really need it.

4th generation i7 quad is much better than ancient 1st generation i7 hex. Plus, LGA 1366 boards are scarce nowadays, good luck getting a replacement in a few years when we're on like 6th generation i7 processors.

I'm surprised you'd wanna change that 4770 system after having just bought it?

And as others have said, stick with the 4770. Newer tech, newer features, mobo compatibility and much better performance.

No need to do such thing... The 4770K is better in probably every aspect. If you need the extra RAM, just save some money and buy 16 gigs (more than enough).

Sounds like some guy is trying to screw you over with this trade. Cant see what you'd need more than 8GB of RAM for at the moment anyway unless you're on 64 player maps in BF3 or running a few hundred layers in photoshop.
Bad trade.

Which shows that it isn't that far behind. I think it's a bad investment to ditch the 4770k. I'm sure a lot of people would like you to sell your hardware. Like others have said, skt1366 parts are getting scarce. In all honesty, I don't think you're going to see much of a difference as far as real world performance is concerned. I would stick with what you have unless it is slowing down, which I seriously doubt. Haswell is newer tech and benchmarks might show it to be faster, sometimes, but in most real world cases. I don't see it being more than a few frames per second on average.

End all: Don't waste your money and hardware. Just get some more ram for your current rig if you need it, otherwise my recommendation would be to leave it alone. Now if something is going slow already, that's another story but you'll lose performance if you're doing anything that can utilize all 6 cores (12 threads). There is a famous saying, "If it's not broken, don't fix it." In this case it's more of, "If it's doing what you need now, anything newer will do the same thing just as well."

So leave it alone and enjoy your 4770k.

I didnt trade but, the guy selling the motherboard processor and memory isnt trying to rob me he wanted $500 for the setup or trade for new processor n motherboard. Only reason i didnt trade was becuse of the socket 1366, if i coulda got a newer 6 core i woulda of done it. This 4770k runs @ 4.8 ghz without a hiccup using AI suite 3 I just clicked auto tune and went took a shower and came back it was idling at desktop @ 4.8 so i just left it there.

Exactly buddy, stick with it. :)

That's a pretty good overclock you've got there too, especially for a Haswell chip. At that overclock, I'll bet it smokes the old 980.

Just check your temps to make sure it's not overheating under load. If it is, it might make for a good excuse to upgrade your cooler. ;)

X58 does not have native SATA3 ports.

If you want to use a new SSD at its SATA3 speed, stick with 4770K.

Again keep the 4770K and if your only gaming 8GB is enough anyways + it's cheap to buy and there is the point keep what ya have just because of the warranty.

24GB is pointless for most people even 16GB is pointless for most lol. 8GB is good for a gaming rig.

If you where on x58 with a 980x then I wouldn't jump to a 4770k, but since you are on a 4770k then I definitely wouldn't switch to a x58 with a 980x, because it's older tech.. I have a 2600k @ 4.3Ghz I use for my main gaming rig, but my work horse is still my old x58 970 @4ghz which is a 6 core as well and performance wise my 970 is just as snappy in most cases and even more snappy in some but not by much.. So, I say keep what you got. :toast:

New instruction sets, new architecture, faster SATA ports, faster memory bus, and new software coming that will leverage the new hardware into unheard of compute speeds. Also much better power efficiency. Don't move backwards.
