Ok guys,

I want some feedback, opinions and perhaps some suggestions about my current rig.

FX 6100 Six-Core Black Edition, 3.8ghz
Asus M5A97-EVO
212 Evo
Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3
Sapphire ATI HD 7870XT
128GB OCZ Vertex 4 SSD (OS),64GB Kingston SSD (PF),WD Green 2TB x2(storage)
FSP 700W PSU

So I'm asking for opinions on everything, the build itself, cable management, air flow, hardware, even rate if you like..Everything! I value all opinions here on TPU and would love to get your feedback as to what you think =)

Thanks guys

Add push-pull fans to that cooler and pick up an FX-8350 if you feel you need more cpu power but other than that it looks good :toast:

Thanks Norton! You always have good advice =) there is a push fan facing the rear of the case..but would you put a pull on the rear panel you mean..?

and I do feel I need a little bit more.it would be a nice upgrade for sure! =)

Put 2 on the cooler itself, you should have an extra set of mounts that came with your cooler.

FYI- The fan you have now would be better on the other side of the cooler- pushing air through it so the heat is carried out to the rear fan on the case.

one suggestion man, is running all of your psu cables through that rubber grommet next to your psu and only feed the cables u need through (in to sight) not only will it look cleaner, but improve airflow too :) Nice rig bro

Edit, sorry just realised you for the most part have already done that, my mistake. It's mainly your front panel audio/usb headers from what i can see that are making it look messy. try and route the usb header/front panel audio through the rubber grommet which is closest to where you are plugging it in, if ur not plugging a particular cable in then try and hide it behind the mobo tray :)

Thanks bro, very useful advice!I have decided to redo my build this weekend by pulling it all apart and rebuilding it, re-routing everything all over again.
Might upload some pics to this thread when I am done and see what you guys think! =)

Have got some good ideas from you guys!

Thank you =)

So mainly just running everything behind the motherboard...?
I think a modular psu would help my case too =\

Yes run the USB behind the motherboard and threw the opening above the PSU and anything else that you can get behind it. .I have the 212 EVO fan to push not pull. I tried the push / pull with the EVO and it didnt help. Plus if you put the fan on the memory side the first memory modual will keep the fan from turning because it will be right up against it. It works well that way

Ok thank you!I will do that =) so what do you suggest with regards to my 212 then? why would you want the fan to stop spinning!!?

Maybe if I do as been said and set up the fan on the other side of the cooler and just push the airflow through the cooler out the other side out the back of the case..?

No not stop spinning. You know how the EVO will turn if you bump it or grab it. The whole heatsink turns a little. The memory right up against it keeps it striaght. When I get home Ill post a pic

Looks good, maybe you should try increasing the overclock a bit, get over the 4.0ghz hump. Overclocking these chips is pretty easy, just up the multiplier and the volts, then test for stability.

throw a second fan on the 212, that's the big plus for that heat sink you should take advantage. I highly recommend the Cougar Silent fans

I am not sure because of the images but you should have more intake fans then exhaust fans, this enables you to keep the dust out and may help reduce hot air pockets that get trapped around your case. Positive Case Pressure.

I also recommend a side intake for your GPU if you decide to overclock. I can't tell if you have one on the side of your case. Can you mount intake fans in front of your harddrives? Running additional fans helped me a lot with my temperatures and doesn't really add to the noise at all if you use the Cougar fans.

If you zip tie your wires together it may help reduce the size of the wire bundles. Also you can buy cable extensions that will allow you to hide your unsightly wires behind the back panel and have a separate cable for each accessory. Reducing the wire tangle will give you much better flow and will prevent hot pockets of air being trapped. Its all about air flow in and out. Air trapped in the case not moving is air that will heat up.

After you take some of our suggestions, post some updated pics! You have a nice system.

Ok people!i decided to do it tonight!Spent the last two hours rebuilding it again.. =)

The only thing is I CAN NOT physically fit a fan on the other side of the cooler in between the RAM modules and the cooler..You guys suggest putting a fan on that side but it does NOT fit with the RAM in the slots.. =( its close but not gonna happen.. =( could it be a combination of my motherboard and the 212..?
But I did change the fan I DID get on the cooler on the other side to pull, so its pulling air and pushing it to the rear of the case.

What do you guys think now? Better?More suggestions?

Looking good bro. Don't worry about running a second fan then. Or you can run a 80 or 100mm fan and zip tie it on. Might also be able to zip tie a fan to the bottom below the video card blowing out the back. Zip tying fans might sound primitive but it works and it can get you securely placed fans in good locations for heat movement.

Nice rig man! :toast: Cables look much better.

Put 2 on the cooler itself, you should have an extra set of mounts that came with your cooler.

FYI- The fan you have now would be better on the other side of the cooler- pushing air through it so the heat is carried out to the rear fan on the case.

That's the only thing I was going to suggest. Either buy another fan to do a push/pull or put the current fan on the other side to push through the heatsink. :toast: the fan on the case should help with pulling the air. :toast:

The only thing is I CAN NOT physically fit a fan on the other side of the cooler in between the RAM modules and the cooler..You guys suggest putting a fan on that side but it does NOT fit with the RAM in the slots.. =( its close but not gonna happen.. =( could it be a combination of my motherboard and the 212..?

=)

Take the ram out. Put the fan on. Then put the ram back in

I've done this before. Also, if you have a dremel then you can take a notch out of the fan. You can also just move the fan up over the ram and zip tie the fan in place. :toast: You should be able to crack 4ghz with a push/pull configuration. :toast:

I tried this also and it still didn't fit.It was putting so much pressure on the RAM that I thought it was going to break it! =P

Ok..I know it would probably work I just like it to look nice and to zip-tie a fan in place doesn't really look professional =(
But I agree with you, if I was able to get this going I could get 4ghz, although nothing I do really needs more cpu power, so I don't really mind if I don't break 4ghz just yet =) My next upgrade will be an 8350 anyway which will take out any issues =)

Thanks for the help guys! I am much happier with it the way it is now!

It looks like you could slide the fan mount upward a bit to get the clearance. How much clearance do you need?

FYI- on my Xigmatek coolers the ram slides in right along the fan and snaps right in. Xig mounts can also be moved up a couple of fins up/down as necessary... yours should be similar
