alright, just been notified that my refund has been put into my account now. its decision time.

I've thought long and hard about what I really want with this new monitor purchase.

I want it to be compatible with both my pc and xbox 360...not worried about input lag.

I want a "wow" panel, my current monitor is a samsung Syncmaster XL2370 TN panel..I want something that's really gunna show me what all the hype is about when it comes to IPS/PLS.

Not absolutely essential, but i'd love to experience higher Hz gaming. just anything over 60hz - so preferrably overclockable.

I've just found this Crossover 2720MDP Pixel perfect here:
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/List...06&permanent=0

considering this has the inputs (Dual link DVI, DP, VGA and HDMI) it appears to be overclockable according to the sellers notes too...this could be a great choice for me. Completely happy to pay $650NZD for this if the panel itself is up to scratch.

Even though you can use adaptors (hdmi to dual link dvi) I've read a lot of people confirming that a lot of the DVI only monitors do not work with the Xbox 360 which would seriously annoy me lol..

Anyway, anyone know if this monitors picture quality is as good as the Crossover 27Q/overlord/catleap etc? it uses the LG S-IPS...so im guessing its the same panel again as the 27Q and catleap whereas the newer Qnix use the PLS panel from the samsung 27a850?

One thing I have read about is the catleaps,27Q and 2720mdp usually whine, whereas the Qnix/xstar using the PLS panel from samsung usually doesn't whine?

but yeah, id like the connectivity options as I have broken up with my baby mama so won't have a tv for the 360 to be used on, amongst lots of other crap lol..but gaming matters right?..:)

let me know what you think guys. I have give or take maybe $750NZD max to shell out on this upgrade.

getting excited now, sheits gettin serious.

so i've posted in the thread you mentioned above but havent heard anything yet. So here I am back here to try again. I have about $650-$700NZD ready to spend right now on a new monitor.

I originally wanted multiple inputs for my XBOX360 to work but it appears there is no overclockable panel that works with the xbox.

So, heres what I want :

*Free Worldwide Shipping
*pixel perfect display
*overclockability
*decent price.

Unfortunately the catleap Q270 OC is out of my pricerange at $800USD (about $900NZD)
so from what I can see this leaves me with the Xstar or Qnix displays using the Samsung PLS panel?

Also the Overlord Tempest...which seems to be out of stock as per overlordcomputer.com and I dunno if they do free worldwide shipping though...if they do, i'd prefer the overlord over the qnix/xstar I think.

Anyone able to provide some input here? see any good deals on Ebay for any of these monitors link me here if you could please as Im at work an ebay is blacklisted lol..

I'm not quite sure what do you mean by 'overclockable'.
I currently use Samsung 120hz monitor and the image is great for gaming. The color is superb too.

However this monitor is not quite perfect: it's too expensive, the stand has no ventilation so it gets hot very fast. Also, I often get this annoying message of "not optimized mode" when connecting via display port. I have to turn it off and on again to get rid of this problem. This happen almost on a daily basis.

If you have that much to spend why not get a 2560x1440 IPS locally? You will then get warranty service without having to ship it back to Korea and the taxes will be included in the price.

because here, for a decent PLS (asus ) it costs around $900NZD, whereas the Qnix works out to about $450NZD, plus taxes etc so about $550. The reason why these Qnix/Xstar/Overlords/Catleaps etc are so popular is A, the price is great and B, the PCB they use in these displays are overclockable/unlocked per say. So to date there is no retail 2560x1440p monitor that runs at 120hz right? they're all 60hz. These korean models *can* clock upwards towards 120hz@1440p. some hit 96hz, some less, some more. For the price, its a pretty effin good deal.

If I could find a Asus PB278Q PLS retail here in NZ for $700NZD, i'd grab it without thinking about it, but the extra $200 is just out of reach for me.

They have been coming down in price. Newegg (US) had one for around $500 the other day and you can pick them up over here for $5-600 . I imagine that it won't be long until NZ follows suit.

I think most companies are trying to clear their stock of 1080p panels before putting their 1440p panels into the mainstream :(

I remember seeing your thread when you first ordered it, I was like huh? whats a Shimian? lol..These things are so cheap. This Qnix works out to $430NZD.

where as this samsung PLS which I believe is the exact same PLS in the Qnix is here, cheapest price in NZ = $1039 but none in stock, and $1243 if you want one in stock.
see below:
http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=938206

Cheapest Asus PB278Q? $897
http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1387727

What a deal! even with paying duty fees, which according to http://www.whatsmyduty.org.nz/
works out to be $101.80 so the exact full amount (if I do get charged the duty fee) comes to $527.79 all up. For the same sheit, but overclockable :) can't wait.

i believe that the X360 will only accept HDMI with HDCP.
looking at the ebay ad, it does not say anything HDCP with that panel

Yeah man its alright. Not sure if I explained, but I decided i'll just keep my current monitor for the 360 and focus on getting a great panel that is a dedicated PC monitor which can overclock at a decent price :)

So I have recieved my Qnix now...the good things about this is that the monitor is massive and in great condition. The bad news is its all for nothing without the power cable and dual link dvi cables which were supposed to be in the box! both are not present.

So yeah, a little gutted right now. I've contacted the seller who is out of office until the 29th and then he'll have to ship them to me from korea so itll take another week or so...So im gunna take the monitor into my local jaycar store tomorrow to see if they have the correct sized plug which can output 12v at 5amps...and if the price is right then i might just buy it. So yeah, here's hoping they have the right size plug coz it looks pretty standard (similar to the size of external HDD plugs).

Surely some good lucks coming my way right? :)

Isn't just about any monitor overclockable? Just depends on you video card and drivers? Also a panel running 60Hz+ won't do much for the Xbox but will be great for PC gaming.

I decided to get a monitor strictly for the PC in the end, coz i'll keep my xl2370 for the xbox. no, not all monitors are overclockable and they also cost a shit tonne more than these displays. EG : the panel in the qnix monitor I purchased is the same panel from a samsung PLS which currently the best price in NZ is $1300, the qnix inc worldwide shipping and duty fees ended up costing $520, plus its overclockable and has less input lag due to lack of a scaler.

Even if I end up paying another $80NZ (not likely) for the cables that were missing, thats still a great deal in my opinion.

I have my LG TV,a 22" monitor from dell and my quad HD Auria overclocked using Nvidia control panel. Not all of them overclock well just like any overclocking there is variance, but I have yet to encounter a modern screen that wont do it even if it's just 5-10Hz. So don't sweat it just make a custom resolution/refresh rate in the driver menu to give it some more frames a second. Oh and you'll love 2560x1440p I can't go back haha.

hey guys! finally finally finally...I have my new QX2710 up and running (now that the cables have turned up). wow it really is such a sexy panel. Everything looks so much better now.

Now...time to overclock? lol..I see most people overclocking are using nvidia, has anyone overclocked these monitors with AMD crossfire?

I have the ATI driver patcher and CRU. once I enable test mode and set the custom rez with higher HZ, how do I enforce it in games? eg, if I launch a game which has vsync enabled it seems to be still vsynced at 60hz. if I turn vsync off then my fps goes way up to like 170fps in farcry 3. *scratches head*
