Hi, I have an ATI Radeon HD 4870x2 that I noticed that one if the cards GPU and MEMORY clocks were stuck on 500 mhz and 900 mhz. I looked into it and found somewhere that flashing the bios fixes the problem.
I flashed the bios on both cards and when I turned the computer back on the screen was glitching (colors in the wrong spots, lines all over the screen, and letters and numbers everywhere)
I managed to get back change the bios back to the backup bios but now im getting an error at the startup saying
"YOU HAVE NOT CONNECTED ONE OF YOUR VIDEO CARD POWER CONNECTORS TO THE POWER SUPPLY. PLEASE REFER TO THE 'GETTING STARTED GUIDE' FOR PROPER HARDWARE INSTALLATION."
Any ideas how to fix the problem? I have a powerful power supply and the power cables are both connected.

I used the instructions found here http://www.overclock.net/t/640063/how-to-flash-ati-cards

when backing up I backed up the master as by using "atiflash.exe -s 0 backup.bin" and the slave as "atiflash.exe -s 1 backup1.bin"

then to go back to the old i used "atiflash.exe -f -p 0 backup.bin" and "atiflash.exe -f -p 1 backup1.bin"

I'm no computer wiz so I just followed the instructions.

The bios I used were http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/30925/ati-hd4870x2master-1024-080930.html
and http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/31228/ati-hd4870x2slave-1024-080930.html

Hi

Log in to TPU goto Forums; at the top of the page you will see User CP; fill in system specs hardware brand names and OS

Confirm you are flashing a single card
Confirm if flashing two cards that only one was installed
Link to exact make and model of card you are attempting to flash
Confirm # numbers for the card, these are found on the back of the vga cards PSB [if uploading a pic of the back of the card *edit out the serial number]

Question: Did you uninstall the drivers before flashing the vga card?

Edit: Change file extention .bin to .rom

Worked every time for me. Just make sure you have master and slave going to right spot.

It is 1 card
http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/ati-radeon-hd-4000/hd-4870X2/Pages/hd-4870X2.aspx
Im not sure what numbers you want, is it the P/N #? if so 102b5090200 000001 and 7121170000g (831a2)
No I didn't uninstall the drivers first.

But the main problem is I now cant get past the first window when turning the computer on, even if I push "del" to get into the settings, it just comes up with a red message saying "YOU HAVE NOT CONNECTED ONE OF YOUR VIDEO CARD POWER CONNECTORS TO THE POWER SUPPLY. PLEASE REFER TO THE 'GETTING STARTED GUIDE' FOR PROPER HARDWARE INSTALLATION."

I have tried swapping the power connectors over, I have ran it without the power connector/s and the screen stays blank. But when both power connecters are plugged in I get the error.

This is the exact card I have

Hi

After looking at the spec's for the motherboard; will need a PCI vga card to enable a monitor and then to remove any trace of the AMD Drivers; next reflash the 4870 x2 corrupt vbios from a dos prompt

when at the dos prompt use atiflash.exe -ai 0 [check where the PCI vga cards location is 0,1 or 2] then check what postion the 4870 x2 is.
Example:
atiflash.exe -ai 0
atiflash.exe -ai 1
atiflash.exe -ai 2
* keep the backups of your Master and Slave safe in the mean time; you will require these to restore the card

-download atiflash; use this version: here -
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1123/atiflash-3-60/

go here http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/browse.php?c=21
-download - HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool - v2.1.8 & Windows 98 System Files

click Primary Download unzip the files to a folder on your HDD; make sure your USB Flash Drive is attached to your PC; open HP USB Disk

Storage Format Tool v2.1.8 ; select Creat a DOS startup disk/ select: using DOS system files located at: (these are the files you have just downloaded): browse to the files in win98boot; then start the process.

Next

copy atiflash and backup.rom + backup1.rom to the bootable USB flash drive [rename file extention from .bin to .rom when flashing from the dos prompt]

[Note: enable file extentions in windows via control panel]

Set the motherboard bios to boot from usb *press F8 during boot; select from boot menu *if option is avalable; this should boot to a win98 dos prompt

check flash drive at the command prompt
- type dir

check position of the card at the command prompt
- type atiflash -ai 0
Note: as the 4870 x2 has dual gpu's these are normaly @position 0 = Master & 1 = Slave however when using a second card to boot from the postion may change to 1 = Master & 2 = Slave

Double check these positions before flashing

Flash the card
- type atiflash.exe -f -p ? backup.bin wait for it to finish [?= position of card 0 or 1] Master
- type atiflash.exe -f -p ? backup1.bin wait for it to finish [?= position of card 1 or 2] Slave

type exit

Reboot the system attach monitor to 4870 x2

good luck

Unless you know what you are doing, its ALWAYS recommended that you contact the manufacturer of your graphics card and get the latest vBIOS for your cards that way, it avoids such cases as these. What is the manufacturer and model / SN of your cards?

Not sure why you would require this info; as the warranty went out of the window when the card was flashed with non- proprietary vbios images

this info is in post #6

Hashes # 102b5090200 000001 and 7121170000g (831a2)

Note: only the manufacturer; retailer and or owner ever require a serial number

Thanks so much Law-II, I managed to use another computer with an on board vga, and used the power supply from my main computer to run it. Worked easier then I thought it would. and thanks everyone else as well. I thought I would have to buy a new GPU and with a little one on the way I don't know when I could have afforded it.
