That does not mean you can only connect 8 devices to the router. With the standard settings the router can theoretically support up to 253 simultaneously connected devices.
I believe the client supported devices refers to how many extra access points or routers in bridge or client mode can be added. This type of connection is often used to add wireless function to non wireless devices.
Each access point/client can add many more connected devices to the network.

802.11ac in name only

The R6100 is a dual band router that supports combined WiFi speeds up to 1200 Mbps with Fast Ethernet wired connections

Anybody besides me see the problem with this? Fast ethernet is 10/100, so you could achive those speeds (theoretically) with a basic $40 single antenna 2.4 GHz 802.11n router and 40MHz channels. My 2x2:2 dual band 802.11n router (300 Mbps) is already limited by the 10/100 ports in real-life client to network share usage. This is just for the '802.11ac' tickbox feature. You really need gigabit ports for "gigabit wireless" to make a lick of sense.

I was very shocked at the idea of a fast ethernet ac router too.
How much extra can it really cost to use a gigabit ethernet system? This is one Netgear router I would never pay for.
