I'm not limiting myself to the PC, but I think most of these games would be better with a mouse and keyboard, even if they stated on a console.
10) Snood - The original PC time waster. Years before Bejeweled, Plants vs. Zombies, and Zynga this is what we played. Considering what Popcap has done I don't see why that can't be done for Snood.
9) FF IX - FFVII and FFVIII are considered more than other FF games when it comes to a remake. I don't understand why. I've played all three on emulators, and VII on the PC natively. IX had more likeable characters than VIII, better combat than VII, and an ending that didn't feel forced (go ahead and play through VII and tell me that non-ending was natural and fluid). I guess my perspective is skewed, because I started at IX and worked backwards.
8)System Shock 2 - All the standard reasons. I got to play this on windows xp x64 a while ago, and the fan mod graphics and sounds did a lot to improve the game. I would love to a better engine, more friendly controls, and some decent voice acting transform the game from a classic into a genre defining piece.
7) Grim Fandango - Another absolute classic, that almost nobody knows about. The game is crazy funny, had wit, and people deserve to see what can be done without a gun.
6) FF Tactics - No, I don't want a card battler. No, I don't want it on a DS or the Vita. Squareenix just needs to remake Tactics with twice the story being fleshed out, a slightly improved control scheme, graphical overhaul, and 120% less cheap crap from bosses. It isn't rocket science.
5) Homeworld - The second game was ok, but the first was my first RTS foray. I bit off a lot to chew, but the teeth grew back while I was grinning ear-to-ear. With the rights to this being bought up in the wake of THQ collapsing, I'm looking forward to this coming to fruition.
4) Chrono Trigger/Cross - Squeenix, let's talk. FF needs time to cool off. The abominable turd that the whole 13 and 14 debacles have become needs to cool down before we'll accept anything else. Both of these titles were amazing. You can throw cinematics and cut-scenes in to you heart's content, and we'll still love them. Seriously though, I don't want to see 15 on store shelves for at least three years.
3) Hitman - The original was broken. Each title has gotten progressively better, yet none feel like that first game. The improvements of recent installations, coupled with the homicidal fun of the original, would refresh us as to why agent 47 is worth caring about.
2) May Payne - Hear me out before you scoff. Max used to be fun. The gameplay was decent, but the story and writing is why I enjoyed the games. The new Max is a downer that makes the game a slog. Killing all of these people is standard fare for a shooter, but the first two made Max a character worth getting to know, not a power armored death machine with no discernable features.
1) Unreal Tournament - Again, hear me out. We've had decent Unreal games in the past few years. Decent is all I can call them. Unreal was always about the mods, tight gameplay, and frenetic action. 2003 was the last variant that did this right, but it hasn't aged well. I want to be bender again, flying around the on a Tribes style jetpack, wielding a baby that fires lasers. That wasn't even the craziest thing I'd every seen done, but there doesn't seem to be a proper successor out there. A proper development kit, and a good base on which to build, is the one thing I want to see above all else.
