Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 DirectCU power cable

Hi,
Does this graphics card come with a power cable? I opened the box and while there's space in the foam for one, it is not in the box, and the card won't work (red light stays on). Amazon are telling me it doesn't come with it and won't take back the card. Thanks.

Just looked, not sure if it does, you should be able to get one for a few $/£ etc, if you already have the card just buy a molex to pci-e cable.

Does your PSU not have a pci-e 6 pin power lead on it?

The cable you want is a molex to pci-e power cable, it does not plug into your motherboard.

It is up to you to make sure your computer meets the minimum requirements for the card, this includes the requirement for a 6-pin PCI-E power connector on your power supply. It is kind of a shame Amazon doesn't list the minimum requirements, but you should have looked them up before buying the card.

Just for reference here are the requirements according to nVidia: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-650/specifications

It says that a 6-pin supplementary power connector is required. Amazon also lists the box contents and doesn't list the power adapter as being in the box. So there really is no way to fault Amazon here.

Also, if your power supply doesn't have a 6-pin power connector, you probably shouldn't be using it with card that requires one. Don't use one of those adapters, just buy a capable power supply.

Oh I see :-( The computer is brand new so I thought it would have such connections. I've attached pictures of the inside. The PCI-E is obviously the blue one. The power supply is 320w so I don't know why an extra cable was not included. It's not possible to connect the card some other way?

p.s. the specs on the computer say: "Support for one PCI Express® x16 Gen 3 graphic card up to 75W (total for graphics)"

p.p.s. Just read on anandtech.com "The system is only designed to support cards up to 75W (meaning no PCIe power connector)". Ah well, live an learn I suppose! I'll get a refund and buy something that will actually work, like a nvidia nvs310

Minimum requirements for the GTX 650 is 400w power supply, that power supply isn't built for a higher end graphics card, that is why it doesn't have the extra connector. The PCI-E slot supplies 75w, the extra connector supplies another 75w, the card is a 150w graphics card.

I wouldn't return the card, I'd buy a better power supply instead. Assuming you are wanting to play games, a 310 will barely be better than the onboard graphics...

This PSU has one PCI auxiliary power connector and should be just what you need for this build,but if you intent to use this psu in future builds it might not be enough because it only has one connector (I recommend at least two)in which case you can get this the 500w version of this PSU which has two.

I agree, the CX430 at a minimum, but the CX500 would make a great heart of any system.

This commonly happens when people buy a low end name brand system, then try to upgrade the GPU. They don't realize it often takes a more capable PSU.

The best option is to build your own system from the start via parts you pick out, vs a cheap name brand system. There are good guides on what are some decent affordable parts to choose and how to assemble them, including easy to follow YouTube assembly guides.

Occasionally you can find pretty good deals on complete part packages for a full entry level gaming system, like this one from Newegg's email subscriber promotions.
