ASUS Introduces Designo Series MX299Q Ultrawide 21:9 Cinematic Monitor

ASUS announced the Designo Series MX299Q Ultrawide 21:9 Cinematic Monitor, a 29-inch widescreen display with an ultra-wide 21:9 aspect ratio and 2560 x 1080 resolution. The MX299Q features the latest AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) display for rich, vibrant color with 178-degree wide viewing angles, and ASUS SonicMaster audio, co-developed with Bang & Olufsen ICEpower for superlative sound quality with its built-in stereo speakers. It also features an award-winning, simple and elegant sundial-inspired design.

With a display area equivalent to that of two 17-inch (5:4 aspect ratio) monitors placed alongside each other, the ASUS Designo Series MX299Q Ultrawide 21:9 Cinematic Monitor has a display area 33% wider than a similar Full HD monitor. I don't see the usefulness of these monitors. 2560x1080. You are losing even more vertical pixels from 2560x1600.

This type of monitor only seem to be useful for gaming and watching movies, and not even all of them, since not all of them support it.

Mmm, either that ASUS logo has black borders around it or that's not a 0.8mm bezel? It doesn't really count if the viewable area doesn't go right up to the bezel...

On another note, if this wasn't as stupidly expensive as I believe it is, it would be nice to have two instead of my current 3 monitor setup

Personally, I like this monitor for two reasons other than it's width: 1. The fact its an ASUS 21:9 monitor and 2. The bezel thickness and look is fantastic. Most of the current 21:9 monitors look generic and thick, they are even from brands we don't usually like like Dell and Phillips. I'd say this is a very nice monitor in comparison to such competition.

As for price, I can see their reasons. Its 80,000,000:1 DCR, IPS panel, 3W stereo, and even a Displayport within a 21:9 format alongside with MHL. Those features are something I'd go for any day.

nice monitor

My conundrum is that i have a triple 27" setup with 2 ASUS MX279H and 1 Samsung S27A950 monitor/s. This setup is a really good one apart from uniformity, as all 3 monitor's have virtually NO BEZEL! Obviously, for uniformity, the Samsung's gotta go and I'm thinking on this one but will this MX29 look a bit thin beside the MX27's?
Has anyone tired this?
