Brand of GTX 780? does it make a difference?

Hi,

i am thinking (actually planning to) buy a premium GTX 780 and i have the shortlist:

MSI gaming gtx 780 OC

Palit Super Jetstream gtx 780

and ASUS DirectCU II OC gtx 780

it seems like a difficult choice. my question to you guys is does it matter?

I have read the review and Super jetstream does have the best performance but i prefer the quieter version of MSI and the lower temperatures.

On the other hand ASUS has the lowest temps and decent performance.

what about you guys what do you suggest?

Do you want to overclock? (MSI - Lightning - unlocked voltage)
Do you have a budget? (Palit)
Do you require silence? (Asus)
Do you want a pleasant RMA experience? (NOT ASUS but they're getting better)

I've got a Palit reference 780 and it's quiet, gives great performance and temps are around the 80°C mark when under load. If you're at 1080p on a single monitor I personally wouldn't bother with a premium card as apart from the performance of the reference they look great, but if you do want a premium card I'd go for the ASUS.

All the premium cards are just as powerful as the reference cards, only some of them have much better voltage delivery systems. NVidia really cheaped out on the phases, but the reference cooler is near silent even at 80%, and most reference cards can get within similar overclocking ranges as the premium cards. Better to wait for the Lightning from MSI, with its rumoured unlocked voltage.

Yeah I worded that pretty badly, I meant I wouldn't pay a premium for a manufacturer's card (ASUS DCU II OC for example) when the reference cards work so well. I've been very surprised at how quiet the reference Palit runs under heavy load and it's actually starting to convince me that SLI may be worth a shot in the future instead of constantly upgrading to better single cards.

No i understood what you said I was just reinforcing it!

I wouldnt pay a premium either unless I was getting unlocked voltage.

ssh ive fallen for it....

in all honesty tho Asus charge an extra £100 quid for the name. Msi/Evga or even reference are probably better choices.

and i get the silicon thing, its luck of the draw and who knows how many cards were tested before one was sent to a reviewer.

The Asus is an incredibly effective cooler given its utter silence though.

Get whichever one you think looks cooler and is within budget. They'll likely perform the same, the silicon is luck of the draw in terms of overclocking.

I prefer the ASUS but i cannot find it anywhere to buy it. i read great reviews for the MSI 780 gtx. cool temps and really low noise.

my only question is this DIGI++ worth it?

efficient power delivery is better than average power delivery I guess. Its like adding custom rims to a milk float though.

Asus do have decent phase designs on their cards, not sure on Msi but Msi do overclock great.

I like where Asus is going with the design, but that Msi gaming edition looks incredible and so does the EVGA superclocked thingys!

if ya spending this amount of money on a single card id think about factors, like colour scheme, will you be watercooling it, maybe SLI, what overclocking utilities you prefer, its come to light that the mobo its paired with matters now

My Galaxy card soldiers on quite admirably in my system. Honestly, the premium cards are mostly gimmick. Only reason I would consider one would be if it had aftermarket coolers, or some other feature that I found worth it (or manufacturer warranty).
