12 months, 4 mice dead. Need new mouse suggestions.

I'm just rough on mice, period. They all "die" to similar causes, either double clicking or not clicking at all, so simply I'm a bit rough on the switches. I know for sure when I screwed up the RAT7, so I paid more attention this time to how hard I hit the buttons, and I'm sure that this is all from abuse, rather than normal use. Otherwise, I'd just be RMA'ing a bunch of mice. Whoever makes the RAT7 was more than willing to RMA easily, I just couldn't find my receipt, nor remember which retailer I bought it from. If it was one of the local ones, I could just take it in and have them RMA that, which I will probably do this weekend, come to think of it.


I still want a different mouse though, or to fix these Razer mice. The Razer mice have been most comfortable for my hands, just I've gone through many of them.

I am really liking my Corsair M65 mouse. Far more accurate in Battlefield 3 with it too.

I used a MX518 for like 7 years, and I still have it and works like new. pretty solid mouse. If you want something to hold you over till you get a new one, I can just send it to you. its just sitting here.

Yeah, I just tried to fix my old naos. Coudn't get the spring back on, and didn't really understand what I was doing in the first place, neither of the guides I read went into depth.

As far as mice go, I've only had bad experiences since my 5 year old G5 died, from a puncture wound by screwdriver... so I suppose logitech would be my advice. Not sure if they still make good ones or not though. Judging from the changes to their speakers I'm doubtful.

I always buy Logitech stuff. Not because they last longer or never break, but because if/when they do, Logitech support is the best.

They will often put a new mouse in the post for you without having to return your current one.

My current mouse is a Logitech M705 (I'm saving for a G700) I've had it around 2 years. The rubber grip started to warp and Logitech offered to send me a whole new mouse and the left clicker recently had issues so they replaced the whole thing.

I think that with mice, If you use them a lot, they will just die. So the most important thing is to get them from a company with a kick ass warranty service.

The Sensei RAW (black rubber version) is actually what I use on my laptop day to day. Considering I see a lot of mice, and am constantly swapping mice for my gaming rig, it really does say something for Steelseries if I have never looked to replace it since the day I got it! Its a bit plain, ambidextrous, light, but it offers back and forward buttons for browsing and gaming with a fit that just feels nice. For the switches there is a combination of Omron D2FC-F-7N(10M), 10M is for the amount of clicks in the lifespan, and the side buttons are TTC switches since they get used less.

@ dave directly. I assume you would have looked, but any time I have click issues with mice, and this is new out of the box, not after prolonged use, it was because I had remains of other driver still on the OS, even an empty folder from a previous driver install caused click issues for many of the mice I test.

My Sensei has been good up to now t least although only been 8 month which was a replacement for a ZAI..

I been after a good left handed Logitech mouse at lease they typically have aa 3 year warrany and not some shitty 1 year.

I had no luck with razer and their plastics they use either which is why i went SS but started to think they use the same crap too although last time i looked the warranty was at least bumped up to 2 years.


EDIT: all mine have had the double click issue due to the plastic wearing it is possible to fill that gap that's required but your either talking some thing really think ( foil MIGHT work ) or filling and making the difference up with some thing thicker like aa old credit card.

my mouse is rubberized over the plastic and I have not had any issues with it, I am interested in hearing the issues with your plastic though to help me with more things to look for with mice. You could also PM it to me if you want as not to derail Dave's thread too much, but I bet he would be interested to hear this as well.

sucks that you have such a bad experience with razer products Dave, i too have a deathadder thats going on something like 5+ years with no issues what so ever, ive logged over 2K hours on CounterStrikeSource alone, that doesnt include the hours ive done on 1.6, half life 2,BFBC2, and now well over 200hours on BF3 and the mouse is still running strong. Older Deathadders, specially the 3G, are really good. Recently razer has been using polystyrene to do their mice top shells. These shells also have small cantilever to press the switches. Since polystyrene is quite fragile, the cantilevers can break or wear out really fast. I have killed two razer mice in 1 year, and the problem was always the same, left mouse button cantilever broke... Their mouse design is really good, it is just the materials used... The only reason for using polystyrene in their top shells is to have that glowing snake logo (Also it is a really cheap plastic)...

Well here is my mouse experience:
-Logitech MX518 from around 2000s till 2007, just stopped using it cause I bought new
-Logitech G9x from 2007 till 2011 cause my mother lost it when i was away for vacations (seriously i dont know how)- the perfect mouse. By far best laser and best clicks I ever tested. Very comfortable
-RAT7 in 2011. Great in the hand but problematic laser (sometimes it stopped working in the X-axis) and double clicks less than half year after having it. Mouse died just over a year after buying it. Also, rediculously bad customer support telling me to clean the laser of the mouse to fix the problem lol.
-Corsair M60 that I bought to replace dead RAT7. Epic laser tracking and good handling. A year later problematic middle mouse button and mouse laser stops working randomly (need to disconnect and reconnect USB to make it work again). Couldn't even bother with £30 cost to RMA to Corsair in the Netherlands.
-Paid £30 for new Logitech G500. Laser almost as good as the Corsair, RAT and G9x, but not as good. Lets see how long it lasts although I am thinking to buy a G9x again.
-My friend has Razer Deathaddler that I found for him on amazon for £30 (nearly half price). Plastic, medium tracking and loud clicks with a gap until u hit the bottom of the clicks. Exactly what I was expecting from this company. These products are terribly overpriced and average in quality and performance. I called them the Apple of peripherals. At least I know 1 year+ later his mouse still works.

Bottom line: Get Logitech, forget the rest.

Yeah Logitech G500, G400 are excellent choices. I have 2 friends one with the 500 and the other with the 400 who are using them for around 2 years and still working good.

For me, I used a Microsoft Optical mouse(bundled with Wired Desktop 500) for 5 years until its right click decided to give out. So again I bought another Microsoft 1000 dpi mouse and it is 2 years- No problems.
In 2011, I repaired my old mouse by using the button from another dead mouse I got from a friend(soldering work) and got it working as well. Even today, it works and my sister use it with my laptop.

I don't have a double clicking issue, But I do destroy mouse wheels. I typically use the side of the wheel not the top, and because of that I put a lot of mechanical wear into the light cables they use for the sensors.

Full strip, Solder in some better wire, Add new feet. My current mouse is over 5 years old. My mouse before that was well over 8 years old. It was a first generation intelipoint mouse by microsoft. I actually had it that long that the plastic wore away to the point of been able to feel the switches under the left click.

Both have had multiple repairs.

I went though 3 of those within 2 years lamo. I had 2 of the originals which the 1st broke on the 10th month and the replacement about 4 months which by then they released a updated one which i took the silly risk on getting and failed in 13\14 months but at least it lasted longer but was without a mouse sooner LOL.

Reason i wanted a good DB as i used to play a lot of Tiger Woods and it was a sweet mouse for it.

I agree with you, Dave. Don't use a Razer product. I went through two of those myself (Mamba and Naga). Been using a Zowie AM for close to a year now and it is still fully functional, buttons included, but some people I spoke to reported the issue you mentioned (which has allegedly been fixed).

Its feet are thin but can easily be replaced.

Had a Deathadder that lasted forever. Just recently started to suffer from not clicking when the buttons are used. Was one of the best mice I ever had, surprisingly durable for a Razer product.

The old Microsoft mice were tanks, if you can still get them.

I've had 2 Logitech mice, both G5s. One died fairly quickly, and the other was sold because I liked the feel of the Deathadder more.

It seems like it's luck of the draw when you use everything but a Razer. They have gotten pretty bad in terms of durability over the years. Here's to hoping my Naga doesn't up and die on me.
