I plan to do an upgrade for my pc. There are 6 options i have in mind.

1. X79 system+E5 2620 (used cpu)

2. X58 system+X5670 (all used)

3. X58 system+I7 965 (all used)

4. Z87+I5 4670k (all new)

5. Z77+I5 3570k (all new)

6. Z77+I5 2500k (all used)

Basically option (1)(2)(4)(5) costs the same. Option (3)(6) are much cheaper. I'll reuse my 4GB of memory(or upgrade to 8GB), hdd, 550W psu. Planning to buy a new video card too. Maybe a gtx 760 or a used HD 7950 3GB. its 50bucks cheaper. I do various things on computer but mainly gaming 1080p.

So which option should i go for? Thanks

the z77 platform alongside that 2500k is more than enough for gaming at 1080p, depending on your budget thats what i would go for, and spend the saved money on a GPU and more ram if need be. my 2600k and gtx580 is holding up pretty strong on BF3 at 1920x1200 res. But that just me, i built my computer when i was out of a job, just looking to get by...

I like combo 3 for longevity sake. It's not a dead socket and it's modern hardware. You won't have to think about it for a long time. It also probably will put out the best numbers as far as game performance as well. I would forget 1, 2, and 3 for the sake of gaming. I could see reasons for justifying 5 and 6 though.

Depends on the price... 2500k would be good, but brand new, forget the 3570 and go for 4670k

If the price is substantially lower (by like $200) on the #6 option, thats your best bet.

I just found out that combo Z77+2500k has been sold. I can only buy new Z77+2500k. The seller claim that his 2500k is new sealed 1year warranty left.

Another combo comes in H87+I5 4430 at a very reasonable price. It's used but only for 2 months :)

Combo 3 hasn't been sold yet.

SO what should i go for? I want to take advantages of my WC system

No use at considering anything other than 4 (4670) or 5 (3570k) especially as you have the budget and you'll benefit from knowing they are new with warranty.

I have some question about ivy and haswell.

1. I heard 3570k has problem with temperature. Is it fixed?
2. Can i reuse my block (xspc rasa socket1156) for socket 1155 and 1150?

I think you might be referring to the TIM that Intel used for IB not making very good contact between the die and IHS, I don't know if this has been addressed with newer revisions or if it would even be an issue on a WC setup.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1155

Your block should also fit the newer sockets.

:wtf: Uh, no they aren't. The 4770k is only 20% more performance than the 2600k,the 3770k is only 10%, and you think the 4670k and 3570k are better? Plus Sandy Bridge is generally better at OCíng due to better thermal transfer material used. I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion though.

I vote for Z77 + 3570K from one reason it's balance between performance and overclock.
SB is less performance and excellent OC, Haswell is worse OC excellent performance.
Ivy is in middle and best on high temps from all three.
But if you ask me used X79 motherboard and waiting 4930K is real deal.
6 cores maybe became more important if games and applications adapt to AMD.
Who knows what will happen in next 2-3 years AMD is in consoles and optimization will be better for their hardware and 6 cores are best plan for future.
AMD if launch CPU better for 25-30% than previous he became better option in mainstream in any combination except consumption. Because that 6 cores is important.

Voted for combo 6 for its price/performance/overclockability - just perfect for games and saves you money for the gpu ... just make sure previous owner didn't degrade his i5 2500K with overclocking

I've been running a xeon 1230v2 for about 2 weeks now and its an excellent alternative to an i5 3570k, as its just $200 at microcenter.
