Hi all,

I've been using a Microsft Trackball Optical for a while now, and while's it's really comfortable to use and has helped alleviate some of my aches and pains, the ball constantly sticking is annoying the hell out of me and its general inaccuracy has affected my gaming to the point that I don't want to use it anymore.

So I'd like you guys to recommend me a replacement. Another thumb-controlled trackball would be nice, but I'd happily consider a normal ergonomic mouse. Extra buttons don't matter to me because I never use them, and I'd like 1600dpi as a minimum.

Thanks.

Ooo, trackball. I haven't used one of those since master of orion 2 days.

One of the best reviewed mice on newegg is a logitech trackball but it's not thumb movement. You could start there.

MOO2 :O I lost 90% of summer with that game. Psi's were the best.

As for mice, Logitech, Steelseries, Roccat, Tt ESports, Razer, Corsair, are all decent. Get a mouse without positive acceleration or bar snapping. Who cares which one. You're not going to look at it much.

I was kinda hoping for specific recommendations as I really don't know anything about mice. I just bought whatever took my fancy in the past.

I've been on a long quest for the perfect mouse. You've already seen me rave about this thing in other posts... but, the Logitech G700s. Really comfortable, 11 buttons, 8200dpi, wired\wireless mode at any time, but a bit pricey. Worth it though.

Agree! Have the G500 at home and the G5 at work (right now). They're about the same feel, the G500 has more fancy buttons. Very comfortable to me, including extended use.

Out of curiosity, does anyone actually run a mouse at more than 3600dpi in games? I mean, 8200dpi is entirely pointless for me, and my mouse can run at 8200, but I've never gone above 3600 without getting irritated at how inaccurate everything is at high dpi on 1080p. I can see it being useful at 1440p and above though.

Logitech G500 is cheap and good. I currently use a ZOWIE AM. It works well and is a bit more expensive, but I had to get used to its wheel.

I really don't want to pay for extra buttons I'll never use. I don't even use the forward and back browser buttons on my current mouse.

If you want a decent regular mouse, the G700 is as pretty good one. I saw it for only $50 on a Newegg email subscriber promo recently.

I also have a G500, it's great.

And as far as trackballs go.. Unless theirs a specific program you use it for, than I'd say it's time to drop that habit.
