X1950 pro Oblivion crashes

Ok i dont quite understand this i get random Crashes to black screen and the whole computer locks when playing oblivion never had this problem with my x850

i figured it was a power problem so i bought a new psu see specs but that didnt fix it the max temp im geting on the 1950 is 52c so heat isnt the problem either so i figured the card was screwy so i ran 3dmark06 3 times and it ran completely every time without crashing and it dont crash in any other game so what gives?

My system was completely stable till i got this card

52c max load tried reinstalling drivers & different versions too/oblivion no change

reinstalled x850 no crashes

also nothing is overclocked in the system

if no one knows whats wrong ima RMA it and get the Gecube x1950xt agp

I play oblivion with everything maxed HDR + 2aa and it runs fine for me.....(unless I o/c a little too far !! )

I know thats small comfort but just so you know its not a generic problem with the 1950pro.

BTW I'm using an AGP 512 Sapphire

Its probably refresh rates being set too tight in your graphics card BIOS.

If you're using a dual core alt-tab out of the game,bring up taskmanager and set affinity to one core only.This cleared up alot of the bugginess for me when I installed Oblivion.

It sounds like an overheating problem to me. Try removing the hsf and lapping it, and putting some fresh thermal paste (AS5 or similar).

gecube stuff!!

hi folks...and particularly batou1986..
just taken delivery of a gecube agp x1950xt. tried to run a fraps test in oblivion, and twice it black-screened, seized solid and i had to switch off manually!
have not tried any other benchmarks yet..i am concerned that there is no spec for the card in everest whatsoever..blank screen. ati tool has no provision for fan control or showing the temperature ikon on desktop (latest version .26)
ati tool defaults the core/mem at 648/702...i thought that this was 900 memory?
any other input please?

just a thought guys, have you tried installing all the latest game patches? and whats your psu ? could be a power supply issue

runs fine now that i got a gecube x1950xt try ati tool 27 beta as it works like a charm with this card havent tried oc yet but fanspeed and temp monitoring work at 100% i have had 0 problems i will report back after some more intense testing this weekend

BTW would PPL please read more carefully when replying to post as i have already covered the possible heat and power issues in previous posts in this thread

thanx guys for help/guidance....card seems generally to be excellent and frame rates at standard in oblivion have jumped by about 10 over my 850pe, which is looking good. strange that i paid over 200 pounds for the 850 about six months ago..and 150 for this beast! it's over 9" long; had to move a hard drive to get card and connectors in!
however, the case is too small; too much heat...i have another one in the "laboratory" that will fit it better. btw, catalyst control centre crashed the system on their "overclock?" thingy...never liked it actually, what's the general opinion of it? maybe need to learn how to use it properly
Batou...i didn't know that there was a new beta ati tool..thanx, i'll go find one. maybe the everest (last freebie?) doesn't know this chipset?
time to buy a modern one maybe!

...update! have transferred to other system and case (larger). thanx batou, i found the new beta ati tool and everything is monitoring as it should be. managed to benchmark the same scene with x850pe and the x1950xt. not finished yet;still had black out after trying to re-run the chosen cross-country course after completing benchmark. i reckon i still have to deal with heat probs as suggested by zalmann. not keen on messing with the hardware at the moment though in case i deem it necessary to rma the card.
regarding the rig:
abit av8 - VIA K8T800 pro - new amd64 3800+ venice core
hiper 525w - brand new and rock steady rails
2x512 corsair xms3200LL - spd 2. 3. 2. 6
only tried aquamark 2003 yet - remember the explosion at the end?
now looks like an explosion rather than a slide show!!!
here's a few figures comparing 850 and 1950 for benchmark; everything on max except my monitor will only do 12x10:
x850xtpe - min. 12fps - max. 26 - av. 17.283
x1950xt - min. 22fps - max. 42 - av. 33.850
all at default 2.2ghz and card settings default too.
very happy indeed if i can get the probs solved.
