While my current rig holds it own in today's games market (which is the reason I built it) I am now building a new system.

I'm looking at these parts

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68V_PROGEN3/

I have a choice of 2 Processors

1.http://ark.intel.com/products/65520/Intel-Core-i5-3570K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_80-GHz?wapkw=i5-3570k

2.http://ark.intel.com/products/75048/

I am unsure which of the 2 to go for as some people say that if you plan to over clock then the 3570k is better as it oc's easier than the 4670k, what's your input on this,

For heat transfer I'm looking at using Artic Silver 5 http://www.arcticsilver.com/as5.htm

as for cooling I'm thinking of using either

http://www.corsair.com/us/cpu-cooling-kits/hydro-series-water-cooling-cpu-cooler/hydro-series-h55-quiet-cpu-cooler.html

or

http://www.thermalright.com/html/products/cpu_cooler/hr-02_macho_reva.html

which is better in terms of overall cooling and performance

I already have the ram which I plan on using it's Kingston Hyperx although later I may consider upgrading to G Skill, and I am going to continue to use my current xfire setup as it has coped well so far.

Thanks in advance for any advice given.

4670K - OCing isnt that hard, there are threads on here for it.
Z87 1150 motherboard of your choice (That Z68 is for older processors BTW, it wont work)
Corsair H80i would be a good cooler to OC on, maybe as low as a H60.

If for any reason you prefer an easy overclock, get the 3570K. If you have time and patience, the 4670K will reward you greatly. To me, they are more or less equal - you will not be able to tell the difference in real life.

While looking for the board you specified, I found this one http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/B85%20Pro4/index.asp?cat=&os=&c= which is the correct socket for the 4670k and supports 4th gen, is this a good unit to run the system on and what are the main differences between this and and Z87 Pro

Nevermind just checked and it doesn't have what I want.

I am building it primarily for gaming and I know most games with the exception of things like GTA don't use hyper-threading too much so is it worth it to shell out the extra pennies for that extra oomph, I find myself playing these games mostly

  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2
  • Hitman: Absolution
  • Skyrim
  • GTA IV
  • Dishonored
  • Saints Row 3
  • Sleeping Dogs

I will be adding to that with some of the newer games coming out this year like,

  • Watchdogs
  • The Crew
  • Elder Scrolls Online
  • Splinter Cell Blacklist
  • Rainbow 6 Patriots
  • Dragon Age: Inquisition

Will the 3570k and the http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z68V_PROGEN3/ along with 2 HD7770's run those even if it's not at max settings,

What's your price point for the mobo? Also, gonna recommend the phanteks phtc12dx in your choice of color. I paid 50, it outperforms my h100i with less hassle and pump grinding noise. The build quality is outstanding. Comes with awesome thermal paste (same as noctua i think) and good pwm fans. Link: Phanteks PH-TC12DX 120mm PWM CPU Cooler - Newegg.c...

Where do you plan to buy your chip and mobo? Microcenter has the best pricing, and they frequently have intel motherboard+cpu combo deals. Way cheaper than anywhere on the net.

edit: How about this mobo:

And what do you want? There are literally dozens of decent Z87 boards.

My main want on a new board is 2 PCI-E 3.0 slots for my Xfire setup and I'd like to have them run at a minimum of x8 in that setup.

I've set a maximum amount of around £100 for the board, I had done some shopping around and found the board on Amazon as for cpu I was getting that from Novatech possibly Amazon, I'll check out MC though and compare.

If its crossfire you want, you're going to need £120 for the MoBo minimum, better boards are around £140-£160

AsRock Z87 EXTREME3 Socket 1150 DVI HDMI D-Sub.. |... - £117

http://www.amazon.co_uk/dp/B00CXK57KS/?tag=tec053-21 - £156

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-434-GI - £168

It's a cheap board.

Yes ;) I think it fits his budget and the crossfire requirement. reviews seem to indicate its okay, though I am not a big fan of MSI personally.

I personally hate the MSI BIOS, and I have an MSI board.
I just dont think he should cheap out on a motherboard for a shiny new OC'able processor.

Board only features one PCI-E 3.0 slot and one 2.0 I'd like both my cards to run on the same revision either both on 2.0 x16 or both on 3.0 x8.

MC are US only and don't ship to UK so would cost me more to have a friend buy it and send it to me than it would to buy the same board in UK

however upon searchin I found these 2 boards under the Z87 search type

See my recommendations. Crossfire isnt gonna happen on a board for £100 or less unless you take a hit on all other bases.
Z87 - £120 or more, find some boards, find some reviews and do some research, that's all I can say.

I would not bother running 5770 CF. Sell those cards and upgrade to a single more modern card. 5770 CF equaled a single 5870 IIRC. A newer modern card, say HD7950/7970 or GTX760/770 would spank that setup, while also not dealing with multi GPU issues.

5770 ? I don't know where that came from but I mentioned above I'm running HD 7770 CF, I plan on upgrading Gfx card but not just yet as these have seen me through some good intensive games already.

I gotta say, after checking this against the other boards I had looked at this had the most of any of them with 3 PCI-E 3.0 ports and 4 2.0 ports more than any other boards I had found even the Hero board for £170 so I'm seriously thinking of getting your linked board and the 4670k to run alongside my gfx cards and memory I am still searching out the best coolers, is Artic Silver 5 the best paste to go for in this kind of build or is there something better out there with a higher heat dissipation.

I'm now left with one final concern, My pc is usually only turned off for 8 hours while I sleep and it's left on during the day for all purposes, it is worth while getting a board with a Dehumidifier for the power down period or will it be ok, I live in a small place with limited space although my case has plenty of room around it the room can be quiet warm and humid, appreciate all the help you guys are giving thankyou.

Phanteks phtc12dx

I looked at that but I'm not sure it will fit into my current case and there is no plans to upgrade just yet, I would still like to see cooling figures comparing this to corsair h series water cooling and see which is better bang for my buck.
