Hi gents,
I run workstation, (m/b Tyan tempest i5400XT, CPU E5420 @2.5MHz-2 processors, RAM 20 GB, Win7, 64 bit) and my NVidia Quadro 5000 worked well in the first year. After the crash the computer system, it is happened some damage of the video card. The computer can work only in Safe Mode with this video card and the screen resolution can be 1600x1200. After restart the comp (from the Safe Mode) at booting system the screen is freezing in sequence "Starting Windows".
In the Safe Mode the Device Manager recognizes the NVidia Quadro 5000. I have updated NVidia driver to the latest one, but no help, remove the card to another PCI-e slot, no help.
With other video card, NVidia FX1700, computer works very well.
Any suggestion for help? What about reload video card BIOS? Can anyone had similar experience?
Thanks.

if the card was damaged you wont be able to fix it by flashing the BIOS.
first try removing old drivers and reinstalling.

that should fix it.

How Old is the Graphics card ?
Does the Card still have a warranty ?
You might want to check that out just in case you have to RMA the card (its a VERY EXPENSIVE CARD)

I would say that the card is gone. When the cards go bad they tend to stop working with drivers loaded. But as other suggested first try with clean OS install if the results are the same you know what you should do next.

Hi gents,
Thanks for your interest and response. Thanks de.das.dude.
I boot system in Safe Mode, deleted all old drivers and device. After restart the system is boot starting windows normally and system found NVidia driver somewhere and installed it. But after restart system can not boot, it freezes in "starting windows". I tried to change to older drivers
but everything is the same.
The card is bit more than 3 years old, no warranty.
It is interesting, in normal window, with system installed drivers, all software works well, but system all time requires restart, and after restart it goes "starting windows" and after about 20 sec, "Entering power save" and monitor is off, even I had before enabled power save.
I am not sure, about reboot card bios, does it would help?
Maybe the step after, clean installation of the system?!
Thanks very much for interest and advices.

you need to install proper drivers. go to nvidias site and get the latest drivers and use them.

and you dont DELETE drivers. YOU UNINSTALL THEM.
use driver sweeper to uninstall drivers. your system is crapped up because of man handling.

after that, restart, go into normal windows and install the latest drivers.
get latest drivers here http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
select the second option, by clicking on graphics drivers on the right.

if you still cant fix it,
i think its time to call a professional and have them look at it.

Thanks de.das.dude,
when I said "delete drivers" I thought it was uninstalled, not literally deleted. It was uninstalled by Device manager.
"Drivers sweeper" you mean on some software for uninstalling? Could you suggest someone reliable?
Yes, all drivers are downloaded from that site.
Thanks again, I will follow your advise, you are is a legend.

to uninstall the video card drivers, is it good enough to uninstall them in Device Manger / Uninstall, or there are some better way?
Thanks.

Don't give him false hopes and rage about how a driver should be uninstalled. That crash is clearly a busted gpu or in best case a busted +12V on the PSU, that is nearly as bad as probably he doesnt have a standard psu with that kind of rig that can be replaced easily to test it out. The 1700 consumes less so that is why it might work or simply because the Quadro 5000 is broken. And no driver or bios will fix that for you.
The first clue is that there was a crash first as mentioned in the OP so the problem wasn't caused by installing bad drivers when it first appeared, that points to a hardware failure, as nVidia drivers usually manage to recover when they crash and notify you that they crashed.

Zsolt, thanks a lot for your comment and opinion.
Now, the old drivers are deleted and the system is booted in normal windows, but it was not recognized Nvidia Quadro, but Standard VGA Graphic Card. I going to install Nvidia the newest driver and see what will happen.
If you thought about busted +12 V on PSU , now I have replaced to another source 6 pins output. gpu means graphic power unit isn't it?
Thanks you again.

So, the Quadro5000 works in normal windows as a Standard VGA Graphic Monitor.
After that the newest NVidia driver is installed (double click on .exe file) and the comp is restarted. Then, the system is freezing on "starting windows" and bit later, the system "entering power save", and the monitor is off.
Then, the comp is restarted and system will only boot in safe mode. In the Safe Mode the Device Manager recognises Quadro5000 (but is is in Safe Mode). If the system is restarted again and if it go to Boot windows normally, then windows will be frozen and screen is off.
You indicate that reboot of the card BIOS will no help ???
Can make thing worse if the BIOS is reloaded?
Are there any other hope?
In any case, gents thanks very much for your time and help.
Cheers.

You can try BIOS reflash but i dont really think that it is gonna fix it. The best thing you can try is take this Quadro and put it in another workstation or pc on a clean windows install and if it presents the same symptoms it is the card and nothing can be done about it, apart from some electronics specialist troubleshooting if it can be fixed with solder reflowing or replacing some little bits. But such a person is hard to find.

Yes, it looks only options. Repairing of any part of hardware is very hard, it is for very specialized service if any, except manufacturer.
And on the end, I left so sad, the card is gone.
Thank you gents for your help.
Cheers.

what ever you do not flash the card now. it is very foolish to flash the BIOS. there is about an 75% chance that it will do more harm than good.

removing from device manager does not remove everything completely. so download "driver sweeper" then install and run it. there will be option [check box] to select nvidia display. click that and then select analyse.

then a list will come showing what parts were not uninstalled from the system. then select clean.

restart machine and install the latest working (non -BETA) drivers. restart again after this. and check if it works. if it doesnt then it might be the PSU. or the card.

since you say it works well before installing the nvidia drivers, it might just be the drivers.

just to be sure.
download "Furmak" and run the preset benchmarks. if the graphics gets distorted its the card, if system crashes its probably the psu or the card or both.

Thanks de.das.dude.
Definitely, I will do your suggestions.
If exist any chance all attempts are worth.
When you are considering causes and mentioned PSU, do you think about
6 pin power supply cable (direct from PSU to card).
I can check output voltage on this cable.
But, probably part of supplied power for card coming from m/b.
Thanks again.

the problem wont be the output voltage.. but the voltage under load. if you can have a multimeter and check the voltages after putting load with furmark applciation, you can be sure. if voltage drops then its the PSU.

Thanks guys for your help.
I have done all what de.das.dude suggested.
Swept old drivers with Driver Sweeper. Installed the latest one.
But no help.
In the Safe Mode the card works, even on resolution 1600x1200.
It is also works in normal windows but as a Standard VGA Graphic Card
(where is recognised: chip type NVidia; 8 bit, total avail. graphic memory 14 MB,
other memory n/a).
I tried to have a look installing some older drivers, but nothing the good was happened.
But it is worth to notice:
after installed the latest driver (320.49) , no help, then I just uninstalled this driver and installed a bit older driver (275.89). For God sake system was booted to normal windows, with all Quadro5000 performance was recognised. I was so exited.
Then I've attached both monitors as before. After that I couldn't get to boot system to normal windows again.
Then I repeated all steps as before, to get again full card performance with one monitor, but no help, the system was booted again only in the safe mode, or as a Standard VGA card.
So, on the end I put back NVidia FX1700, and wait opportunity to put quadro5000 on the new Win installation to have a look what will happen.
Thanks for your time and kindness to help me.
Cheers.

still sounds like a software problem to me.

when you try old drivers, always try the drivers in the CD that came with it.
