Morning Guys, been a while since I have been on.

My PC spec is filled in, I want to change my GFX to a new single card

Can any one recommend a solution that will be an upgrade.

AMD or ATI, I don't mind

Thanks in advance

Rich.

Nvidia 6xx are getting EOL'ed, and therefore selling for cheaps. Check HotUKdeals for best bang for buck. 660Ti or 670 seems to be the bargain right now, can be had for under £170

I wouldn't spend too much on a GPU for that platform or you'll run into a bottleneck. You can OC the CPU some, but you may want to stick with something like a 650 Ti, which can be had for under $100.

An AMD Radeon HD 7770? Those also use litle power and should perform bettter than those GF 8800s in most games.

I agree. But if he is going to upgrade sometime in 1-2 years, a 7970 would be very nice to keep it. If he is keeping his rest PC for 2 years more though, 7850 is a very nice case. :toast:

sorry, to bring this one back guys,

I know that my CPU will bottle neck, but how would a single HD 7870 fair against my current set up ?

You will just not get them most out of the card and may find it lack luster due to the CPU holding it back some.

Still should see a considerable improvement in frame rate performance and being able to crack up the eye candy.

Just having that much more VRAM is a huge benefit since todays games need a lot more than what your 8800GTS have to offer.

If you are intending on upgrading at a later date, sure the 7870 is a fine card.

Been a fair few posts scattered around the forums recommending the 7870 as a card for 1080p.
GTX 660 is the nVidia equivalent.

I agree about the 7870, should be a right decent choice for your situation.

Honestly if you can fit it in your budget then I would get a 670/770/7970 cause yes your CPU will bottleneck but when you decide to upgrade the 7870 may not be enough for some of the future released games.

Just over half the price I paid for mine last year.
And the local computer stores are still trying to sell my card for the same price I paid for it last year.

Just purchased a 7870 for £110 :D

Ah you purchased before I had a chance to see this thread.

Price wise a very good price and a powerful card. The downside is your rig is very underpowered processor wise so you won't see the benefit of its full potential. You should to aiming at maximum for the 6870, 6850, 7790, GTX 650ti level of card. Other than that £110 is a good deal, BTW was it brand new or used?

Very nice price! Well done! Enjoy your new GPU now. And don't worry a bit about bottlenecks. A quad core at 2.4GHz is a nice much for a single GPU. CF and SLI need better CPU. And if you decide sometime in next 1-2 years to upgrade the whole system, you may get a 20-30% more FPS by 7870, so try it before change the GPU also.
