FX 8320 temps 30 degree difference between cores and "cpu"

Hey there fellas. I was just wondering what sensor i should go by. The Core temp's themselves, or the "CPU temp"? Theres a huge difference between the 2. Im using the stock cooler with stock thermal paste (going to fix that in a day or 2). But besides my cooler...why is there such a large difference in the temps? Is one the socket temp? Or is this just a common thing with the FX CPU's? Im going to use this system for rendering, it will be working at 100% most of the time. So temps are crucial to my operation.

Almost a 30 degree difference......

cpu core temp only becomes accurate closer to tjmax, keep this below 62*c

the other cpu temp is the same as bios, or aka socket temp. usually at higher temps has a 10-15*c difference over the core temp. people say to keep this below 72*c

I believe the sensor is in 2 different locations on the chip or theres two different methods of reading the same sensor.

Ive already seen my CPU temp, not the cores, go up to 139f (59.4c). Ive also noticed my video card temps are about 8c higher then they were with my older 770 chipset and Quad core. My guess is that the MoBo is of better quality and reading the temps more efficiently. What are your thoughts on the Video card temp increase?

Try AMD Overdrive or HWMonitor ver 1.19. They report more accurate core and cpu temps (atleast what I observed).

that's probably the card being used a bit more than the last set of hardware it was with.

Tried HWMonitor ver 1.23. Shows only my HD temps. Must be a glitch. Ill try 1.19

I have a FX-8350, I asked at tech support at amd.com some time ago,"now at 26C temp of room I have 33C cpu temp and 12C core cpu temp(at idle), so my question it is , which temperature I must monitor,core or cpu, and what it is the maximum safe temperature?", they told me:"Please be advised to monitor the CPU core temperatures using the latest version of HW-monitor.62C is the maximum CPU core temp.", from what I understand the cpu temp it is from sensor motherboard and cpu core temp it is from cpu itself, so at you it is ok...I use Aida64 to monitor temps...

OK 1.19 is working and reading the same temps as AID64.. So everything is reading properly i guess.

CPU fan speed

Ive also got a strange problem with my fan speed increasing slowly. I left my computer on over night and came out to a 5600RPM fan. (according to the BOIS) It was SCREAMING!! I had to manually decrease fan speed to half to get it back to its normal 3400 rpms. From a speed of 255 down to 140 (bios controls). Any thoughts on that one?

could of been a glitch or something, strange things like that aren't rare.

set it back to how it was and see if it happens again, if it does then start worrying.

Now that ive reset a few times the fan is down to 2600 rpms. at a level of 140. Very strange......
