Help me choose a GPU for a build...

Hello... I am building for a good friend of mine a new gaming rig for the upcoming games like
GTA 5 and Saints Row 4... My question is that i have some choices for the GPU... and i need some HELP from you guys...

He will play at 1920x1080 on a 27" monitor and sometimes on a 50" plasma Full HDTV...

The GPU's to choose from are:

1. Gigabyte GeForce GTX 760 OC WindForce 3X 4GB - 290 Euro (388 USD)
2. Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 OC WindForce 3X 2GB - 380 Euro (508 USD)
3. Asus GeForce GTX 680 DirectCU II OC 2GB - 350 Euro (468 USD)
4. Sapphire Radeon HD7970 Boost Dual-X OC 3GB - 330 Euro (440 USD)


The rest of the sistem are the following:
CPU - Intel Core i5 4670K 3.4GHz
MB - Gigabyte GA-Z87MX-D3H
RAM - Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600MHz CL9 (2x8Gb)
SSD - Samsung 250GB SATA-III 2.5 inch 840 EVO Series
HDD - Seagate Barracuda 2TB SATA-III 7200 RPM 64MB
PSU - Corsair Enthusiast Series Modular TX850M
CASE - Aerocool XPREDATOR X1 Black Edition

The 760 seems to be the best deal and will power a 1080p monitor no sweat.

Just a note, its the resolution that matters not the size of the monitor. That 27" and 55" both run 1080p.

Of those, I would probably get the 7970 or if he doesnt want to afford it, the 760.

It's sufficient the 2gb version or better go for the 4gb variant??? (for the 760)

For 1080p, 2GB is fine. I wouldnt get a 4GB 760.

I just wonder that GTA 5 maybe will use some more vram and that's why i think that the 4Gb variant will be more futureproof investment...

not when the gpu itself can make use of it. there are plenty of benchmarks that show that more vram can give worse performance on cards thathave vram adde to it over the reference amount.

A lot of those benchmarks were with a lot higher resolution as well where bandwidth actually comes in to play. At 1080p 256bit bandwidth will likely not hold anything back.

I am honestly torn on this one but lean towards 2GB.

True, but even then. the 4GB added to 2GB cards or 6Gb added to 3GB still doesn't improve much across the board regardless. Maybe a frame or 2. You are better off just getting a more powerful card all together IMO.

Depends on the game and settings really.

Personally, if I played Skrim with tons of mods, I would want more than 2GB. There are a few games that come close to 2GB vram use already at 1080p (SKyrim will modded, and BF3 does it at ultra).

I just sold him my Gigabyte GTX760 OC WF2 V2 to my friend and i am waiting for my new GPU, the MSI GTX760 HAWK to arrive soon...
