Hi Guys, I am currently running 2 gtx 570s in SLI. They suffer from heat issues, noise issues, and a low amount of vram (1.28gb). The other day, I saw the ASUS 7970 Direct CU ii on sale for $289 after MIR. I picked it up, but have yet to open it. Do you guys think I should keep it or wait for something else? (with AMD's next gen right around the corner). I don't have any particular preference towards either Nvidia or AMD, but I have a budget of ~$350 and I game @ 1080p. I'm hoping to have this video card for the next two year, and ya :)

I also looked @ the gtx 770, but it's a hundred bucks more...so ya

Did i get the 7970 for a good price?

If you can hold out a few more months til november/december, I think it would definitely be worth it. Waiting for 3 more months until AMD's next gen of video cards drop will benefit you in the long run versus keeping that 7970 you just got. You can save a few more bucks until then and your budget for a video card can be ~$400.

Use the 7970. Not really sure why you haven't already.

That's a bargain for that card, over here we pay more in sterling, usually around £340 for the asus 7970.

be worth trying it, it could be a golden overclocker for all you know.

im also contemplating getting one to match my 7950 or swap it out to whatevers best in a few months.

From what's been said, it's going to be a while before AMD releases anything <$300. Hawaii, surely isn't going to be in that price bracket. You got a good deal. Keep it.

Yes, just keep it, after (if will be) release the new line from amd, it will be another months until the drivers will be ok, so more time to wait...

If you want an upgrade just keep it. AMD has priced their next gen cards over the street price of their current gen cards with similar performance for at least the last 3 generations. That's probably not going to change.

shame you couldn't of waited and saved another $100 for the 7990 version... I cant believe
the price drop on that card... it was literally just $1000 the other day for the devil 13 version...

you've got the same card as me and I have to say ive been really happy with my 7970... so
either way... you cant go wrong...

Personally, I would have preferred to try to deal with the heat issues of the 570 cards. 570 SLI should be faster than a single 7970. The only benefit the 7970 has is it's 3gb of RAM.

still it could be a golden card and overclock like a champ, you never know without testing.

I understand if you don't overclock etc but its good to find excellent oc'rs and sell them on to enthusiasts that do this.

I need to correct myself here. Looking at several reviews and comparing results, it seems a GHZ edition 7970 is about equal to a GTX590 in performance, and I'm assuming since the GTX590 is basically 2 under-clocked GTX580 cards, GTX570 SLI is about equal to the GTX590. So, by my standards( single GPU capable of at least equal performance, while having less electrical usage), the 7970 is a worthy replacement for GTX570 SLI. I replaced 5870 crossfire with my 7970.

Its defiantly still worth it OP but if you were on a tight budget i see them going for $250 on forums. I know a guy selling a NIB Visiontek HD 7970 for $235. Just sell you current 570 Sli and save a some dollars as i think when the HD9xxx series drop prices will be really high.
