HIS posted placeholders on its website for various Radeon Rx 200 series products, before redacting it, but not before VideoCardz took a screengrab. The placeholders reveal nothing about the products, but their names, which include GPU name, memory (type/amount), and custom cooling solution, if any. The Radeon R9 280X IceQ X² leads the pack for HIS. There's nothing known just yet, but the listing reveals 3 GB of GDDR5 memory, and a custom cooling solution by HIS. From the R9 280X, HIS jumps straight down to the mainstream R7 250, and R7 240, with IceQ and iCooler variants of each, and variants based on slower DDR3 memory. The codename "Tahiti XTL" is floating around with the R9 280X. It could be anything from a cut-down 28 nm "Tahiti" silicon, to just a low-power variant of "Tahiti" as configured and clocked on the Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition. The real stuff (new high-end GPUs), is reserved for the R9 290 series (if there is one).

A list of SKUs by HIS follows:
  • HIS R9 280X iPower IceQ X² Boost Clock 3GB GDDR5 PCI-E DLDVI-I/HDMI/2xMini DP
  • HIS R7 250 iCooler 2GB DDR3 PCI-E HDMI/SLDVI-D/VGA
  • HIS R7 250 iCooler 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E HDMI/SLDVI-D/VGA
  • HIS R7 250 IceQ 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E HDMI/SLDVI-D/VGA
  • HIS R7 240 iCooler 2GB DDR3 PCI-E HDMI/SLDVI-D/VGA
  • HIS R7 240 IceQ 2GB DDR3 PCI-E HDMI/SLDVI-D/VGA
  • HIS R7 240 iCooler 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E HDMI/SLDVI-D/VGA

Seems only to be a single high end 2980 and a bunch of low end 2740/50 chips. No midrange 2850's?
Perhaps the 28xx cards will be made through lower binned chips of the 29xx's.

I'll assume its just a rename of the 7xxx series. With the only new chips being 2980/90.
Better to not get hopes up for any new cards besides their flagship. Once that's out and the chips have been binned, we might see some R8 2xx XT's etc.

Best strategy. Why spend all R&D making chips with performance numbers identical to something you made years ago?

Why spend time learning a new name for AMD cards when you can just call it the 2xxx series? :D
People can say what they want, its still called an AMD 2980 to me.

No R8 cards have been confirmed, cause they risk getting sued by Audi...
But seriously, it would be stupid not to release mid range cards, seeing a new generation of games is coming with the release of the new consoles and mid range is the area where the most sales are made. Not every upgrader is willing to shell out 400-500 on a graphics card for those new games. So I'm guessing we will hear from the R8 cards pretty soon.

Radeon HD 7850 is one of the first 3 cards in the bang-for-buck charts... according to TPU...
Radeon HD 7850 is also the most common AMD card of the 7000 series, according to Steam Hardware Survey...

Ya'll seeing where this is going?

You forget that they already make A4, A6, and A8 APUs. Maybe AMD's marketing department or engineers really like Audi?

According to Planet3DNow! its a bit of a 50-50 split. Rehashed Tahiti, Bonaire and Oland. New Hawaii and a tweaked Curacao

Sounds as though Hawaii is around 430-440mm^2
“It’s [Hawaii] also extremely efficient. [Nvidia's Kepler] GK110 is nearly 30% bigger from a die size point of view..."
And judging by AMD Guy's next few words:
...We believe we have the best performance for the die size for the enthusiast GPU.
AMD are now going back to banging the performance-per-mm^2 drum that was markedly absent (and deemed immaterial to the fan base) for Tahiti. That presupposes that Hawaii will fall short of (at least) Titan and any 2880-core GK110 in absolute performance. Hopefully for those of us in the market for high-end cards it gives the GTX 780 a run for its money.

So R9 280X is Hawaii XT and R9 280 is Hawaii Pro ... what happened to the series 8? It got lost just like nvidia's series 300? Same kind of gap as they will keep selling Pitcairn GPUs rebranded as series R7.

No, R9-280/R9-280X are Tahiti Pro/Tahiti XT2... or some refreshes on them.
R9-290/R9-290X are Hawaiis...

Launch price for R9-280X will be under 649$, performance probably over GTX 780 and efficiency way over.

Why do these nerds call it "list of SKUs" when it is a list of graphic cards? :banghead:

Like when in the context of games, other nerds talk about "upcoming IP". :banghead:

Shoot them. (figuratively, please) :nutkick:

Well seeing that nothing has been released to consumers yet, it makes sense that they are talking in industry speak.

For those who don't know: SKU = Stock keeping unit, used for inventory management. IP = Intellectual Property (covering trademarks, patents, etc.)

Thanks man.

In conclusion, no need to worry us talking gibberisch: let's just talk like normal humans do.

1GB GDDR5 or 2GB Gddr3 what gives? surely better for the 2gb models to use GDDR5 but maybe I'm missing something or just been a dopey donny.

I thought DDR3 was long gone? even my gts450 has DDR5..

Nope, they are still alive and kicking. As long as we are still using DDR3 memory someone will always find a way to cut costs and use DDR3 instead of the more expensive GDDR5
