Hey Guys,

Im living in Auz and FINALLY I have the opportunity to get nbn!! :rockout:
I am looking at the 25mbps down and 5mbps up, which where I live is incredible..haha

Sooo im in the market for a decent NBN compatible router. Used by approx. 4 people, some gaming, fair bit of youtube streaming etc.

What do you guys think? Suggestions for routers?
Budget is $200 max.

its just ethernet inside the house afaik, so any router with an ethernet input would do.

the main features you'd want to look for:

do you need/want bandwidth shaping (to stop one person hogging the connection)
100Mb or gigabit wired?
what wifi speeds do you need? (N150/300/600 or .ac)

Look at some TP-Link modems. I got one that does both ADSL2+ and is NBN ready and is gigabit for under $100 ;)

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=200_1438&products_id=21210

and its only $80

dont get one of those ridoncu-spensive routers.

That is very cheap!!? Why is the price difference so big between the one I looked at and this one??They are both dual band, both gigabit wan, the UI on the Asus is a little nicer but what else is better/worse between them?

Thanks though! Maybe this is the way to go!

asus overpricing?

it had wifi N 900 instead of 600 (in reality, its two wifis are 450 vs 300) but thats useless unless you're actually using 450Mb wifi adaptors

my only advice is first thing, update the firmware on the router. updates erase all your settings, and they did add a bunch of new features in from launch (guest wifi for example, was not in the units at launch)

Nice! To answer everyone from the US's questions..Yes all you need really is a router with a wan port..so its that complicated. Im going to be getting about 25mbps down and 5mbps up which isn't too bad =) looking forward to a speed test!

Thanks again everyone!

I can only get 25/5 where I am as fibre isn't coming to where I am, I am going to get a dish and connect straight to the transmitter..so 25/5 was the best deal I could get =( but I wont complain!!

Im on 24/1 here at the moment ADSL2+ and its OK but I would like the upload speed to be alot better, running a server to the internet on 1 up sux. Yea the 25/5 is meant to be coming here next yr (but wireless) im not realy interested but it will help out people that live out of town on farms.
