Finally, i got around my salary and stuff, the thing is, i need builders advice, like usual, i can't make up my mind around the eternal amd-intel discusion.

I currently own an x3 720 Oced to 3.2ghz that is bottlenecking the crap out of my 7870 2GB DDR5, so i'm making a change.

Im going for a full change, Motherboard and Microprocessor.

I can't make up my mind around an i5 or an FX series AMD.

My main goals and usage:

Photoshop CS6 64bits
Illustrator CS6 64bits
Corel Painter
Battlefield 3 - Battlefield 4 (Yeah, i can't wait!)
League of Legends (Believe it or not, my current cpu it's making it all lagy)

The only thing is as usual the budget, i mean don't go over i7 town because it's waaaaay over my price limit.

Hope you guys can give me good advice like you always did without any kind of fanboyism. Please add the chipset you think it will be best for the CPU you advice!!

Thank you in advance!!

do you overclock? if not you can go for Intel Intel Xeon E3-1230V3 Haswell 3.3GHz 8MB L3 C... (it's an 4core/8 threads haswell, at the price of an k i5) + any 1150 socket mobo.

I don't Overclock no, i mean i overclocked my x3 720 but only when he was like 3 years old ;D.

So you think that CPU would be good for the gaming titles i mentioned?? I always thought of Xeon as a server processor, and more of a workstation oriented chip.

Keep your AM3+ board and drop in an FX Hexacore or Octocore. Bottleneck fixed without spending too much money.

Sadly this motherboard goes as far as Phenom II, trust me, i've tried EVERYTHING, it must go. Besides it's a micro ATX board and i hate to see my components all cramped up inside such a tiny board with so much case space available.

Its just a desktop haswell without igpu so it will do just as well in games, and since it has a lower tdp and its not meant for oc you can pair it with the cheapest 1150 mobo you can find.

You mean it doesn't support the FX series.

It all depends on your budget. If you can afford only an i5, you may get more performance or at least similar with an FX X6/X8 still.

It all comes down to money. Not sure what prices are like for Intel/AMD in Argentina.

I'll give you an aproximate:

Intel Core I5 3570k 3ra Gen Ivy Bridge 22nm $ 2.2399 (UsD 280)

Amd Bulldozer Fx 6300 6 Core 3.5ghz Am3+ Black Ed $ 1.1799 (usD 147)

Intel it's really expensive over here, it always was, thing is usually intel motherboards are more expensive as well, knowing those prices what do you think??

Only issue i have with that, or at least, kind of fear, it's my PSU don't coping up to that 125 tdp... Price wise, there are no probs!

Should be able to do it just fine, even with a modest overclock.

As a side note your CPU shouldn't be lagging LoL out, it played just fine on ultrabooks.

Oh trust me im aware of that, that's one of the reason, i think my CPU it's just fried, or it's about to be, it's been giving me shitty performance all over the place.

The FX 6300 is the newer Piledriver, not bulldozer.

Add up the cost for:

Motherboard + FX 6300
Motherboard + FX 8320
Motherboard + Ivy Bridge 3570k.

If going AMD saves you more than 100 USD, AMD. Otherwise go Intel.

Motherboard + 8320 will be my vote for.

If your PSU is a decent one, 8320 + 7870 will not be an issue. You can even do a decent overclock.

If you go 8320 don't be afraid to OC, they are meant to be beaten up, clock it to 4.2 and you will enjoy.

Alternatively you can go with I5 too if money is not an issue.

Any particular brands which have a decent price for in your area? Off the top of my head you should check out Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, ASRock, ECS and Biostar. Normally ASRock will have something decent for cheaps (eg. Extreme4 for Z77), you might want to look out for those. Biostar has a lot of good boards too, but availability might be slightly harder depending on region. I am no good with AMD motherboards, especially the ones which can stand heavy overclocks. No one seems to write a good guide for buying a Piledriver motherboard either.

A good starting point for Intel 1155: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/z77-express-ivy-bridge-benchmark,3254.html

AMD FX 6300 or FX 8320- 990FX chipset (I'd look at the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 motherboard)
IB 3570k- Z77 chipset (I'd look at the MSI Z77A-GD65 (for future OC'ing) or MSI Z77A-G45 (for no OC'ing) motherboard)

Benchmark Scores Why sit on the Bench when you can get in the game and Crunch!!!
From that list I would pick this one:

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3*

*Note- I have the ASUS M5A99X Evo and it's been fine for me... prefer the Gigabyte though.

Alternative:

The Gigabyte 970A-UD3 should be noticeably cheaper and will also do fine. ;)

Whilst it would work the 970a had meagre phases go crosshair if you have the money as you will love it simply.

The 970A is also a UD3 (8+2 power phases)

imho the Crosshair isn't worth nearly 2x the price for the OP using it with an FX-6300...Crosshair is still a very good board though :toast:
