USB 3.0 acts just like the wall chargers - they give the same signal.


short version is, the higher the resistance between the data wires, the higher current the charger can output. USB 3.0 has to negotioate, while a 2A wall charger will have a 'set' resistance to indicate its output. USB 3.0 hub could still come with only a 1.0A power brick, or a 2.0A shared between 4 ports/devices.

whats sad is that i really, REALLY wanted to show what iphone does better - and i'm struggling.

Audio performance for the SGS3 also varies depending on what version you have. The international version has the best sound performance and is definitely on par with the iPhone 4 and 5 while the US version has an inferior DAC.

Good to know. I have the US version, and the output is disappointing, even when using line out from a dock. I've actually debated using a portable amp on the line out to my car's head unit it's so disappointing. lol.

Many newer car head units and even some home theater setups are now bluetooth compatible which will eventually make this a moot point and hopefully get rid of that damn Apple adapter on every piece of audio equipment.

Bluetooth doesn't offer the same level of control. My head unit had both, but integrated much better with iPhone. Plus hard wired just sounds better.

while i don't go that far I also LOVE the BT feature on my deck. Unfortunately the newest Android update broke track information streaming, though i expect it to be fixed shortly The quality is higher than the line-level output, and it's one less wire to deal with.

The biggest point, imo, is that I can switch songs using the deck controls and i don't need to look at the phone

When using an iPhone, BT quality is inferior. It all depends on your phone's output quality. iPhone has a proper line out, most Android handsets in the states do not.


All that said, I'd never think of returning to iPhone. In fact, I think a car PC of some sort is in my future. Probably android based, and possibly just a modded tablet with usb host mode and a nice big hard drive to just straight copy my FLAC from the server with no need for reencoding to save space.

airplane mode is not the same - i want certain people to be able to call. samsung have a 'blocking' mode which seems to do the same thing, just not quite as refined.

Also global equalizers if your rom doesn't have one built in. I use Music Volume EQ.

for many aspects its the same. i have an iphone 3gs and iphone 4 in the house, and since they're all on iOS6 they all behave exactly the same except in speed and image/camera quality - hence not comparing them.

just got an S4 today (swapped the iphone 5 for a brand new S4 LTE), so i cant do much more in the way of testing. will still tidy this up, as i had all the information i need from a year of owning the thing.

I too have a few handsets from both manufacturers and if I am absolutely honest the only real way I see an iPhone as superior is with the Bluetooth streaming music to my car stereo, the sound is so much better!

It doesn't do the track title display which the s2/3 and 4 do though,
so even with the DSP manager of the s4 - or the custom ROM's on the s2/3 it still comes off worse for wear in that area.

i can test that on the way to work in about an hour - headset playback is great, so i'll see if BT has changed.

interesting note, kinda related to the comments here:

using a micro USB retractable cable i've had for years, my S4 recharges at 1200ma
with the cable it came with, it does 1900ma
on my USB 3.0 hub (2a charger, not connected to PC) it does 900ma


now thats complicated, and likely why people are all over the place with charging times for their devices.

Unless you link the phone to a unique USB slot it requires 3x more time to cost in comparison to using the company's adaptor, and those are not free.

IMHO apple seems smoother on their phones as they have no backgrounding to speak of, but it is annoying as **** to constantly switch apps and not know whats going on.


Using my S2 with some tweaks I was running over 8MBps downloads and 1.5MBps uploads on 4G (H+), much faster than the then generation of Iphone could support.

Power users on Android, simpletons on Apple. again MHO.

android 4.2 (and onwards) have 'permanently' blocked apps on the SD, its a google thing.

i've only got 3G, but here in aus people regularly show 40-80Mb speedtest results (its a very under-used network due to the high cost)

adblock plus is broken on 4.1 or 4.2 without doing some proxy settings that break some apps, so adfree + root is highly recommended. i also used adfree on iOS, and both worked equally well.

i've got two devices it failed to work on even with root, adfree worked fine (but needed root).


also if you change wifi networks a lot, having to setup the proxy gets a bit ridiculous, and breaks some apps while its at it.
