Any SSD better than Samsung 840 PRO?

So if we talk about IOPS, other things, is there any better SSD, that came out recently that beats thisone?

I have decided before for Samsung, because its the only SSD, that includes all the components made from Samsung only. That is, in my opinion, a huge advantage in terms of quality and reliability.

Thanks guys.

Plextor, it's the one I went with. The Samsung 840 Pro has slightly faster advertised speed (advertised mind you), but Plextor is the only one out there I know of that's using their own proprietary firmware for the controller, which helps improve TRIM function. That in turn helps keep the drive consistent in speed regardless of how much data is on it or how fragmented it is.

A lot of SSD drives have high advertised speeds, but they don't maintain them over time. Reviews that use stringent torture tests show this, and the Plextors come out looking pretty good.

Sign up for Newegg's email promo deals, and check them daily. I saw a Plextor 128GB M5P going for $100 recently.

Samsung does too but I see what you're saying.

And I agree that Plextor is the one I would choose alternatively. Other than terrific performance, Plextor has had consistently awesome reviews and feedback.

Really the speed difference is very small between SSDs. Id just get whatever is cheaper honestly.

I wasn't aware the 840 Pro had proprietary firmware, but all through their paragraph on it they never talked about it being able to maintain good drive speeds. They only talk about it improving reliability and longevity.

The Plextors get consistently good reviews because they excel in all 3 areas. When you get consistent raves from both users and sites trusted for torture testing these drives, that means a lot.

I can vouch for the M5P models my 512gb has been amazing performance is consistant and unlike my adata drive has a nice fat 5 year warranty.

Well there's are SLC drives available if cost is no object.
I recall reading news posts about the Mach Xtreme and SuperSSpeed Gold Hyper.

What do you mean "better"? Like the ultimate SSD? Does that mean you budget is basically unlimited for the selected storage size? Intel have better writing speeds. Even Adata have better writing speeds and about the same reading speeds as EVO. Plextor has already been mentioned. Availability- no problem>? Don't get me wrong it's just there are many factors. As far as I get it, you have decided on Samsung SSD for one reason or another ( be it "gut feeling", brand conviction, availablity, price, etc.) and now you are searching for external validation if you are "right". Well, if you like Samsung, buy Samsung, you won't be disapointed in any case :) that I know for sure. :)

EVO seems only a way for Samsung to mask the NAND TLC issue, compared to the NAND MLC advantages of PRO...

IMO the 840 Evo beats them all...

The Evo is definitely one of the most interesting drives ever released. Maybe not the best in every metric, but given it's price, it may indeed "beat them all', especially in the marketplace. It only remains to be seen whether it's TLC NAND will maintain performance levels over the life of the drive. I don't think it will matter, because advances in storage technology are coming fast enough to make a drive obsolete (in terms of performance) long before it's flash memory wears out.

Oh? What issues are they masking?

Heh, in price for performance, sure. In pure performance, no way.

Agree totally...the EVO is in the 'middle' of the line up so to speak. It's main attraction is the RAPID feature:

from Anand:

"Samsung sent us a beta of the next version of its Magician software (4.2) which includes support for RAPID mode (Real-time Accelerated Processing of I/O Data). RAPID is a feature exclusive to the EVO (for now) and comes courtesy of Samsung's NVELO acquisition from last year. As NVELO focused on NAND caching software, you shouldn't be too surprised by RAPID's role in improving storage performance. Unlike traditional SSD caches however that use NAND to cache mechanical storage, RAPID is designed to further improve the performance of an SSD and not make a HDD more SSD-like. RAPID uses some of your system memory and CPU resources to cache hot data, serving it out of DRAM rather than your SSD.

The architecture is rather simple to understand. Enabling RAPID installs a filter driver on your Windows machine that keeps track of all reads/writes to a single EVO (RAPID only supports caching a single drive today). The filter driver looks at both file types/sizes and LBAs, but it fundamentally caches at the block level (it simply gets hints from the filesystem to determine what to cache). File types that are meaningless to cache are automatically excluded (think very large media files), but things like Outlook PST files are prime targets for caching. Since RAPID works at the block level you can cache frequently used parts of a file, rather than having to worry about a file being too big for the cache."

The cool part is that Samsung will also be enabling RAPID through the Magician toolbox for the 840 Pro as well!!! Now THAT is gonna be a beast!

As far as what is available right now, I agree with those above...the fastest AVAILABLE ssds are the Samsung 840 Pro and the Ocz Vector (btw, the Vector is due for a 'refresh' towards the end of this year...not sure what that'll be, probably a switch to faster 19nm toggle nand) But atm I'd advise anyone wanting to buy a high-end, balls to the walls ssd to wait a little longer. The next generation is just around the corner in the form of pci-e m.2 and sata express drives. These will make raiding 2 sata3 drives practically unnecessary. Here's a taste of SandForced next generation controller (codename Griffin) in m.2 form (aka NGFF (next generation form factor)). We're talking 1.8GB/s read and write!! Adata showed off their prototype at computex here.
We probably won't hear much about this until Intel opens the floodgates with native 'sata express' support with the Z97 chipset...but there may be a few m.2 to pci-e conversion cards popping up in the meantime allowing desktop users to run m.2 drives. One thing for sure...exciting times are just ahead in the realm of ssds.

What's the use of the that SSD?

You won't feel any difference between Sami and the next thing to it, either better or worse, if it for home use (gaming, surfing, multimedia, etc.).
