With that price I might finally consider a top-end card after all these years living at the mid-end. :toast: Any leaked bench results for the R9-290 non-x?

And after purchasing a 7970 a week after launch and paying full price ($565), I swore to myself never to pay that much again at launch for a gpu (not that I was disappointed with it, just that it was a lot of money).

Yet I think I will be breaking my own promise if this price is to be believed.

This is awesome! I hope this is real, as this price would mean AMD is going for the kill, man how much longer will it take for these cards to become available?

It's not so bad if the card has lasted this long... I guess. Heh.

I'd love a 290x, but I don't see myself needing one at this time. I'll wait until this 7970 is dead or wait until 20nm or something..

You're right, it's not too bad honestly. When I bought my 7970, it wasn't too bad out of pocket since I had sold my 2 6950s. Same thing this time: I'll be selling my 7970s (or at least 1) if I choose to go to the 290x, so it won't be that bad.

These cards have lasted me a long time though, and I would think the 290x would too.

If that ad is correct it might mean the 290x MSRP is $600 as many speculated, with the 290 running about $550. That's very good pricing if the 290x even so much as comes close to the Titan in performance.

I'll wait until this 7970 is dead or wait until 20nm or something..

Why do you refer to it as if one 7970? You list two different ones in your spec chart, so I assumed you were running Crossfire.

It will be interesting to see how two 7970s or 280xs compare to one 290x or a Ttian. I just did some searching, and there's not much out there on how two 7970s compare to a Titan, but of what I could find, the 7970s seem to fare quite well against one. Probably even better once AMD sorts out the Crossfire frame pacing on more games.

That is exactly my thought. My 7970 is more than I need right now so it will last quite some time.

Plus, isn't next gen supposed to be Maxwell with massive improvements?

Well you guys can keep your 7970 cards in your primary rigs. If I can get a 290x for under $600, I'll have one before Christmas. My current 7970 will go to my i7 860 rig and I'll have a pair of 7770 cards for sale(or I might set-up another cruncher with them if it looks like we'll get GPU work units again).

My OCed 7970 is just a hair this side of 60fps ULTRA at 1080p.

the 290x will push it over that 60fps barrier.

So my dilemma is do i cough up the $550-$650 for the 290x for 60fps goodness?

or stay with my 7970 untill the price drops...

There's two different systems in my system specs. I do only have one 7970 now though, so thanks for reminding me to update. :)

@james888. From what I've read around the internet, 20nm GPU's will be ready around mid-next year? So really, if things go right I guess we'll see new GPU's around this time next year. I think Nvidia will have some more 28nm variants of their current lineup to fill the gap in between now and then. Maybe we'll see some mid-lower end 20nm GPU's before this time next year too, like they've done in the past.

Things always seem to change so looking ahead six months to a year is always a guess.

My OCed 7970 is just a hair this side of 60fps ULTRA at 1080p.

the 290x will push it over that 60fps barrier.

That's another thing (I think you're reffering to BF4), if I can pick up a 290x at a "sale price" with BF4 and maybe a couple of other games included I'd be much more tempted to just throw my money at one. I'm also running at a higher resolution, but I'm getting through it with seemingly no issue. I guess I don't have to have 60fps all the time, but it would be nice. I'd first like to see and compare my 7970 at 1.3 GHz to a nicely clocked 290x.

One of the local shops has availability on OCT 24.

Prices are higher then OP tho and Gigabytes are priced higher then Sapphire. Still makes me unsure of final price but they seam to be trending down.

Erocker, your card just called me, it asked me to tell you "you need to let it go.. be strong, just let it go"

And buy a 290X.

How do you explain this text from his card :shadedshu

Wait for the the benchmarks and then a good bargain..

The Sapphire R9 280X Toxic is nice and I'm curious to see if Sapphire will make a similar one with the 290/X. That's the one i'm most curious about.

Easy, 2 7970's beat a Titan. :)

If you look at TPU's Crossfire 7970 charts and Titan charts, they seem to trade blows, but when you look at the performance summary at 1080p, if you add the percentage boost a 2nd 7970 adds, it would easily surpass the Titan in overall performance by over 10% by the looks of it. Still, I'd prefer to see some actual bench comparisons between the two. If you know of any, please post up some links.

I know it is all speculation, but hypothetically

If the 290x does for the $550-$600, and the charts that were posted were true, what would be the better buy (both price and performance), the 290x or the 780 SC?

Again, I know this is all rumors/speculation, but still surious. :)

That'll strongly depend on which titles you play the most.

I'd say 290x just because Nvidia needs to get its face slapped tbh.

I smell a 6950 to 6970 unlock with these ......290 to 290xwith a simple bios flash mmmmm great deal in deed. And like i said in a other post told you the $700 price tag was for the BF4 edition.I might pick a 290 or 290x up depends if the 290 will unlock which i think might be the case.
