R9-280X is the better one. Maybe if you wait it drops in price. Better even, if you could find a 7970GE for less.

Ouch! That 280X is overpriced by $100!

How much are 770's going for where you live?

770 = 520$
7970 = 470$
R9-280X = 410$
7950 = 390$
760 = 355$ [It's on sale now , selling for 290$]
7870 = 320$
660 = 250$ [ on sale now selling for 200$]
650ti boost = 220$ [ On sale now , selling for 187$]

Which is the best buy?
Which will last me longest? If not longest which is better to buy now and upgrade? I'm looking at a total span of 3-4years
I wont SLI/CF [mobo doesnt support]'

Edit: My total budget for now = 410$ MAX , If i am thinking of upgrading after a year or two [when 20nm gpu's release] then my max budget including the upgrade is around 450-500$

ALSO i have a 1080p screen and i like playing games at high settings [not Ultra] with little AA [Not 8x MSAA with 16x FXAA] . Basically i want games to look beautifull and stunning [rather than focusing if settings are ultra very high or high]

280x has approximately 20% better performance than the 760. Is that worth the $110 difference to you? http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_760/27.html

My mom says 20% difference is worth the 110$ and that i can upgrade after 30months if i buy R9 280X [410$]
Dad says it's not worth it? and that i can upgrade after 24months if i buy 760 now [290$]

[From the past history of events mom tends to be more correct]

What do i do ?

This: 20% difference is worth the 110$ and can upgrade after 30months - buy R9 280X [410$]

For what you expect how games look, you'd best go either 770 = 520$ / 7970 = 470$. Luckily the R9 280X has just been released -which basically is a 7970 GE- for $80 less!!!

What i meant in the first post is that i DONT WANT ULTRA AND 8xMSAA settings. I am happy with high and Little FXAA..
Still recommend the
280x all the way then. :)
"then"? When? :p?

This is what my friend quoted me:
"The point is that you cannot have a 4 years or 3 years old (of $300 class) GPU and run the latest titles with max settings (or high).
In the end, it comes to you of what quality you want to run the games. And when it comes to PC tech, shorter and cheaper replace cycles are usually better."

OMG SO CONFUSED ATM :( [Feeling suicidal]

Neither card will run the latest titles at max setting for 3 or 4 years. Might as well get the better card, right?

Leave the drama at home please.

Maybe... Who knows what's in store 3 years away. Nothing is ever really "future-proof", best you can do is get the best card you can get with the budget you have and use it until it is no longer useful.

Having to wait 6 more months by going with the 280x isn't going to really make any difference.

I'd still say get the 280x or 770. even @ 1080p you still can't say if you will not upgrade

since once you do started upgrading we all get this itch to upgrade. so better get the better card so you won't feel that itch soon.

Down the road if you decide to sell the 280x it will be the more desirable card than the 760. It is likely to retain it's value better too.
