I didn't care for New Vegas' story but the mechanics were undeniably better. Fallout 3 had a compelling story but, ugh, wake me up when VATS dies.

I did not mind VATS till later in the games as it seemed like it went overkill..

And i am suree Fallout 3 would of been better if they had the extra time that took for Vegas to be completed.

In the end the content of either of them was more than most games on the market i just hope they get the chance to add as much content plus much more in depth story.. Got some good hours in with both and i am sure their be DLC's coming out it's ass making it not worth buying unless you enjoy spending up to $100 on a game.

If they release it and said theey were not going do DLC's for it i buy it on day 1 so i'll just wait the 8-12 month and just buy the lot lol..

Then again thee DLC's for FO3 were pretty much bollocks anyways.

...they worked on Fallout 3 for ~5 years, and Obsidian made New Vegas in about a year--granted the engine was already made and they re-used some textures, they also created tons of art assets themselves and recorded something like 3 times as much dialogue and audio as Fallout 3 had. Fallout 3 was far too buggy given it's development time, and New Vegas is god damn impressive considering it's.

I cannot share that opinion as i think Obsidian suck ass.. How ever i am sure Bethsedaa know much much more about there engine and have had many new idea's i just hope they don't spoil it..

Obsidian did not rally have to update a game engine and produce a whole new game they surly had time to make vegas much better than it actually was as the story sucked balls lol.

And FO3 was much better than Vegas i just hope thee main plot is much longer this time around.

Burn the witch, burn to ash and bone. Herecy!

I say it again, Fallout NW is a Fallout game, Fallout 3 is Oblivion with Guns. You have not played the original Fallout games, so you don't understand where I'm coming from though. As someone above me said, that's the reason the PIP boy is there, and VATS, and SPECIAL. A game in which you could not cripple their legs to make them stop coming at you would not be a Fallout game.

Anyway I'm having high hopes for Wasteland 2, that should be close to a real Fallout game.

Fallout 1 first level was what killed it for me. Obtaining a small bomb, C4 or something, and killing ants. If you used the bomb on anything except the door at the end of the first level, you were stuck forever in that first level.

That's Fallout 2. And yeah that can be frustrating if you're a talkative charismatic lucky bastard, but get past that and Glory Awaits.

PIP Boy is clever (wearing the menus on your arm) and SPECIAL is little more than renaming the leveling system in TES. Perks in both Fallout 3 and New Vegas were far more interesting than the SPECIAL system.

You don't need VATS to cripple legs in either FO3 nor FNV. VATS only enables those that lack hand eye coordination and/or patience to more reliably shoot <insert enemy here> in the <insert body part here>.

I'm really surprised so many people want Co-op in a fallout/elder scrolls game? To me it sounds like it just really wouldn't fit.

I've always respected Bethesda for not jumping on the 'our game must have multiplayer' bandwagon. Some games should just stay singleplayer only, and i personally feel this is one of them. They've even forced multiplayer into games like God of War, Dead Space, etc and it's horrible

They force multiplayer into games nobody asked for, and hold it back from games people request it for. It boggles the mind.

i'd love it with private coop myself.

would it be perfect, or a game designed for coop? nope. but it'd still be fun.

personally i'd go for the 'others players control your companions' method, where the host controls their level, skills, and such. keeps it balanced, and AI controls them when not in coop.

1) A new game engine. Renaming, reformatting, and including community work arounds in an engine doesn't fly when you've been using it for the better part of a decade. Gamebryo needs to be retired, and a new engine needs to take its place.

2) Official modding support. Bethesda has been great in giving the community tools to work with. Some sort of official vetting process, and an indication that some testing is going on, would be great. It's a bit much to ask, but it'd be nice to see.

3) HD graphics. It took months for Bethesda to release the HD texture packs. Considering that the community made them available in only a month, it's not too much to ask.

4) A lively game. I know Fallout is a wasteland. I know that Skyrim was supposed to be a tundra. Having killed more bandits than the entire population of a small city, I don't know how dead you can consider the landscape. If Bethesda could inject half that life into the landscape I'd consider it a win.

5) A living person, who doesn't look like they're an alien trying to act like a hoomahn. The glassy eyes, blank stares, and inhuman responses are jarring. If Bethesda could offer 1/10th of the detail they spend on tweaking their engine to make it last another game, the people would be passably animated and realistic.

Real scale on maps and population on a capable engine

In all TES games the maps were generally made smaller compared to the actual sizes. I know it was for gameplay purposes (its boring to have a big map with no content) but if they really made a capable engine they could make it very big but not lack content.

One more thing I hate about TES games is the scale of the number of people, for example in Elder Scrolls Oblivion, the Imperial City is supposed to be the greatest and biggest City in all of Tamriel, very busy full of Citizens, Merchants, Travelers, Soldiers, Criminals alike. instead you a lousy little city with less then 20 people on the streets including guards and yourself. A good example of a great city atmosphere would be from the Assassins Creed games, although they would have to make a lot unnamed citizens roaming around the map to make it at least possible.

Also in the final battle on the Oblivion gate, you get like 10 soldiers only and less if you didn't recruit out people. In reality I think the numbers were in the hundreds if not thousands.

Skyrim can handle more people but it is not yet enough. The really need a better engine

Also a Coop system like Borderlands would be fun fun fun

imagine looting hundreds of bodies, or thousands. imagine trying to find the right person for a quest, or that one nook or cranny with the item you need...

i understand wanting it bigger, but messing with the scale so much would make it so daunting many people would just give up.

Assassins Creed got it just right with the number of citizens/people, but they had to make random citizens though, which may be bad for TES, because in TES every NPC have their own distinct lives and personalities and you can follow them around doing things. also it's not a complete sandbox like Skyrim too.

Maybe not real city population, but just make it large enough to make it more believable and immersible

I enjoyed Skyrim as much as I enjoyed Oblivion. The only thing I can hope for is added co-op!

You don't need VATS to cripple legs in either FO3 nor FNV. VATS only enables those that lack hand eye coordination and/or patience to more reliably shoot <insert enemy here> in the <insert body part here>.

If Fallout was just a shooter this would be true, but it's supposed to be an RPG, it has skills and stats which relates to accuracy and damage. Which IMO makes the entire concept of making it an FPS sort of frustrating.

Hardcore is what gaming today lacks. Many would give up, let the weaklings play CoD and WoW! If Bethsoft did this I would start to sort of like them.

well it looks like almost everyone feels these games are lacking some form of co-op. it would be awesome to be able to create a party online and go around stomping baddies.

ALL games lack co-op. Most games would be better with it.

1) A new game engine. Renaming, reformatting, and including community work arounds in an engine doesn't fly when you've been using it for the better part of a decade. Gamebryo needs to be retired, and a new engine needs to take its place.
Absolutely.
2) Official modding support. Bethesda has been great in giving the community tools to work with. Some sort of official vetting process, and an indication that some testing is going on, would be great. It's a bit much to ask, but it'd be nice to see.
meh. not so much. I don't want an Apple Store where everything has to be approved by some cracked up bunch of do-gooders, insisting on their way or the highway.
3) HD graphics. It took months for Bethesda to release the HD texture packs. Considering that the community made them available in only a month, it's not too much to ask.
again, meh. I'm all for the community releasing improved textures, but I do admit that an official high-texture pack for those with the pc's to run it would be nice.

i'd love it with private coop myself.

would it be perfect, or a game designed for coop? nope. but it'd still be fun.

personally i'd go for the 'others players control your companions' method, where the host controls their level, skills, and such. keeps it balanced, and AI controls them when not in coop.
I'm ok with that. I like the post a little up there ^^ that points our Borderlands as a decent example. run your quests your way, or someone jumps in and you share quests. At least on a LAN level. I'd love to have been able to play Obliv and Morrow with my daughter when she was into those.
well it looks like almost everyone feels these games are lacking some form of co-op. it would be awesome to be able to create a party online and go around stomping baddies.

Grouping up would be fun, especially on a private-server/local LAN sort of thing. But, I have to admit, one of the things I love so much about the Bethesda games is their detail. And in order to make a co-op experience of some type, they'd either have to sacrifice some quality in detail, some time in development/release, or hire tons of new developers and what studio in their right mind would do that when they obviously have a winning recipe well in hand?

If Fallout was just a shooter this would be true, but it's supposed to be an RPG, it has skills and stats which relates to accuracy and damage. Which IMO makes the entire concept of making it an FPS sort of frustrating.
Except therin lies the problem: 10 SPECIAL across the board with 100 in all the skills across the board on Fallout 3 and you still can't hit the broad side of a barn with a laser rifle (which should have 100% accuracy all the time) without using VATS. New Vegas didn't suffer that problem.

I'm hypothetically most looking forward to TES 6/7 (most probably 7). It's understandable that they won't go back to being standard RPGs (a la Morrowind), so I take solace with the hope that they only need 1 or 2 more games to get the mix of action and RPG right. If they can get the combat to be genuinely satisfying while still having underlying RPG elements, then that would be nice. Hypothetical excitement is hypothetical.
