Driver Problems after overclocking R9 280X

Hi Guys, So i got a R9 280x yesterday. i downloaded the latest drivers from amd (13.11) Everything is fine when i play BF4 on the stock clocks, but right when i bring the speeds up a little and when the game loads, i either get a Blue screen, or it would crash to desktop (black screen), show direct x error, show Firefox crash and display the Ati "Driver stopped responding" window.

I'm wondering if this is truly a driver issue, or an issue with my hardware :-\

If you overclock something and it crashes it means you overclocked it too far it is not the fault of the software or the hardware because neither has to be stable above stock settings

im only trying to over clock it by like 300 mhz nothing crazy that it should not be able to handle, Plus in CCC that is not even close to the max i can go.

300mhz is a big overclock for a GPU without additional voltage, try dropping it down to say a 100mhz overclock first and see how that runs, then incrementally up the clocks in small jumps if it remains stable until you end up with the same BSOD situation.

But when i get home from work im going to run FuMark and OC it and try to benchmark it. Im thinking it might be a issue with BF4

isnt stock 950? so you are trying to push 1250 and you wonder why its crashing?

No, it is stock 1100, tried bring it too 1300. Crashes

its just a 7970.

people couldn't break 1300 under water with the 7970, what makes you think you can get 1400 on air?

just because you are able to set it in CCC doesnt mean the card can do it.

1400 is a MASSIVE overclock for this card.

noooo stop it, just because the max in CCC is 1500 or even 5000mhz that does not matter, a 280X can probably do about 1250 average on air(if you're lucky) but 1400 is way too high, you need to scan for artifacts from the stock 1100mhz and go from there increasing and scanning every 40mhz or so until you find artifacts then back it down man , your going to ruin your card if you just bam set it to 1400mhz.

I only run my HD 7970/7950s at ~1100MHz, I can't get much more out of them anyway so it's not worth beating them up for the highest overclock. Gigabyte cards generally have little headroom because they are already overclocked out of the box. The HD7970 (R9 280X) started at 925MHz and then 1000MHz later.

Btw, just toss Furmark and run something like Unigine instead.

yeah, furmark is way more punishing than any game you will ever run...
