my computer keeps shutting down during gaming...

I have a problem, whenever im gaming my computer would just shut its self off. Could it be my PSU?

Specs:
990fxa ud3 from gigabyte
antec 500w psu
FX8350 CPU
Asus r9 280x
4gb ram
250 gb hdd

What are the system temperatures? Could be due to overheating. How long has it been since you've cleaned out the dust and changed the TIM (Thermal paste)? Could also be the PSU.

Have you tried benchmarking?

Try set back all to stock clocks, CPU, GPU..... then try gaming.... if It doesnt shut off, then you can conclude that you are lacking "power"

How old is your PSU?

My cpu temp gets to 50-60 c my gpu gets upto 75c and my psu is http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371004. Its a new build so no dust. everything is stock speeds too.

I'm not familiar with AMD drivers but you could try and install another. You don't get a BSOD message?

CD, I don't think a driver issue would cause the system to power down really.

You're trying to power that system with that PSU!!!!!!!?????? You DESERVE problems. Dual 12v rails at 18A. :shadedshu:

yea that is kind of what I thought as well. I have to believe the power supply is shutting down during a load.

Peeg, downclock the GPU and see if that fixes the problem. 18A at 12v is only 216 watts, which is about what the GPU pulls. ~~I think your GPU is running out off juice.~~

Clarification: I'm not disagreeing with stinger, ~~whether the GPU is running out of juice or~~ the PSU is shutting down due to an over current situation, it's a PSU problem.

From the review of your card: The card requires a 6-pin and 8-pin PCI-Express power connector. This configuration is good for up to 300 W of power draw. The first clue should have been the single 6 pin PCI-e connector on that PSU.

i down clocked it to 850 mhz core and i think problem went away, I'll have to play longer to see.

As long as you have 2 rails going to the PSU, you'll be fine. You just have to figure out where each rail connects.

Yep, got to think its a power supply issue. Ditch that power supply and pick up a better one. Keep that one around for a spare,.

Corsair, Seasonic, or one of the better Antec's. Pick one that is around 750W and has a Gold rating.

I hope you have more than one case fan, otherwise you may also be dealing with an overheating problems. Your CPU and GPU are dumping 300+ watts of heat into that case.
