Which Should You Buy: Xbox One or PlayStation 4?

Early this morning, the Xbox One hit store shelves. With Sony’s PlayStation 4 having launched on the 15th, that means both of the new game consoles are now available. Which should you buy?

I’m assuming for purposes of this argument that you’re not the kind of insane gamer who has spent the last six months drooling over game trailers on YouTube, making sure their pre-order is going to be fulfilled on day one, and posting furious messages to internet forums defending the console of their choice. Once everybody’s done lining up in the cold and sleeping in tents outside a Best Buy to make sure they have their new toy in hand, that’s when it’s time for everyone else to make their decisions.

PS3 games (Demon's Souls, Gundam EXVS, Uncharted) appealed to me more than 360, not sure about this gen. Either way I will need to wait for games which I actually want to play to come out first before committing my money on either platform.

Yeah, the article does say that the games library for either console isn't great right now, so waiting seems like the smart option to me.

I will eventually get a Xbox One, as I have owned every Forza game and must keep my rep up. Currently in the top 0.28% in Forza 4, Sadly I buy Xbox's just for Forza...

PS4, waiting is a option but the PS3 had more games that i enjoyed playing and if you use Netflix i believe there is no SONY online fee to use it.

But waiting is the best even for my self as there is always more tv shows and movies i want to watch than games on a console and the ROKU only takes 3.1w to watch HD movies\shows.

It is a hard one at the moment. At this juncture the Xbone has more games that appeal to me but I've always preferred GT series over Forza (even if GT games don't have Citroen DS3s ). So I'll probably end up waiting and getting a ps4 down the line. Also if I bought an Xbone, just knowing that the PS4 is more powerful (technically) would make me regret my purchase.

Also so many great new games have come out/coming out on PC recently (and I guess some on current gen consoles) so plenty to keep busy with while deciding on what console to purchase.

I'm waiting, the games for both consoles don't warrant 400-500 dollars yet but even then I'm not buying an xbox for a "while" maybe a ps4 not an xbox

I've got "Other" as my choice.

We've hashed and rehashed the points of console versus PC, but considering the PS4 and Xbone are basically computers that argument has been largely invalidated. The additional features of the consoles aren't exactly beating out what my computer already does, so the reason I'd want a console is the software. Neither the PS4 nor the Xbone currently have any focus on the games, and those that have come aren't console movers.

Whenever I've got something to be interested in, I'll look at which console to get. Right now I can't see why anyone would be be fighting over which is better. Neither has done anything but bring out shovelware with an HD coating of paint, and prove that fanboys and fangirls can blow money on untested products. I'm waiting until either of them steps up and proves why it's worth an investment.

I'd prefer that publishers didn't agree to exclusive console only games. That makes me more fixated on NEVER buying a console as it's entertainment bribery. I really liked the look of 'The Last of Us' but i would need to buy a PS to play it. Fuck that.

PC all the way and looking forward to playing the Witcher, Wild Hunt with silly settings.

Got both day one editions of the Xbone and PS4, currently playing Forza 5 and Killzone, but I also enjoy PC gaming

Ill be waiting for more titles to come out for either consoles. Usually Sony takes my pick due to their exclusives (jRPGs) judging from past experiences.

I'll be spending any spare cash on pc upgrades, no consoles for me.
Perhaps it's just me but I hate having to buy something without any upgrading options, having to wait till it either dies or another model gets released.

I decided to upgrade my gaming rig this summer and pre-order Gran Turismo 6 for the PS3, so now I'm in college and broke. All my money goes to my kids...with my part time work I have no spare cash anymore. But I have a solid gaming rig I've been too busy to game on, and a PS3 used more for Netflix and streaming than anything else lol! Winter break is coming soon though....

Although I'm a PC gamer to the core, I wouldn't mind if some charitable soul gives me either for free. Not that I'm gonna use it everyday though. I never liked console games that much actually and this gen's lineups aren't that great, at least for me. I can't even decide if I should buy either (if I really, really had to buy one). Xbox One's got Dead Rising 3 which is one of my all-time favorite franchises and Sony offers Uncharted and Gran Turismo. But even those are not enough to convince me to buy this gen's console, especially since I'm waiting for Dead Rising 3 to be released on PC.

Honest? I'd rather add 300-500 bucks to either PS4 or Xbox One price and spend that amount of cash to buy myself a GTX 780 Ti.

I got more games to play on PC than I can shake a stick at. All the games I want are on PC too. So, my Wii is the only console in my foreseeable future.

I'm a PC gamer and console gamer. I have a PS4 and of the two new gen consoles I bought the one that I know is the better choice for me. I have a shit ton of PS3 games and only a handful of 360 titles. I have hundreds of PC titles too.

I will buy the xbone eventually. Just look at my sig...I like consoles.

Ok, taking stock of the votes, it's not surprising that "Neither - PC gamer" is running away with it. However, the big surprise is how far ahead Sony are with the PS4 at 10 votes to the Xbone at only a measly 1. I'm genuinely surprised, as I would have expected the results to be fairly even.

Anyone have an idea why the disparity?

The PS4 is the better game console? I'd say the Xbone is the better media center.

Voted for Other, I can't really see any use for both of them.

PC gaming is much more pleasing and what I want from consoles is being given by Nintendo. (Zelda mainly)

If I buy either it will probably be within a few years. I've focused most of my time on pc but I do own a PS3 and 360.

Only reason I bought the ps3 recently was to go through and play some of the biggest titles plus some classics through PSN. I've owned the 360 since before my pc so I've mostly played that up, though it has modded case fans so doubt I could get any money from it.

Wouldn't mind getting a WII U or 3DS at the moment though.
