I'd be suspicious of the reasoning ability of anyone who bought a console at launch. It will take a long time for there to be enough exclusives and polished games to make that decision. Especially now that you pay for online for both platforms. Makes owning both a little ridiculous.

Well, all I can say is both consoles have their merits, there were a few games I really wanted to try, like Forza, and Killzone, both haven't disappointed; my son loves Knack, and NFS: Rivals on PS4, me and my dad are playing Forza together and I also think Ryse and Killer Instinct are good games, but nothing to write home about.

Maybe it's better to wait for games that better utilize the hardware, but honestly I can say I was anxiously waiting for Forza 5, and it is the game I have enjoyed the most, currently there just isn't a game on PC that gets close to the cheer fun I've had with my dad, not since Gran Turismo came out on PS1 we have enjoyed a game together this much, the car models are awesome, the driving physics are unmatched and having Jeremy Clark guide you through most of the game is certainly a boon for both of us, since we are both gearheads :)

All in all, not a bad start for either system in my humble opinion, but I'm sure if you have a PS3 or 360, or a killer PC you're not missing much and there's no hurry to upgrade, as for questioning my reasoning ability, well people are entitled to their opinion, I'm just a platform agnostic gamer, and have been ever since my dad bought me my first Atari 2600 :) I'm just grateful we both can enjoy this pastime together after over three decades, and there as never been a better time to be a gamer IMHO.

Long story short, you can't go wrong with either platform :)

So it looks like the PS4 has the edge on graphics quality which might explain why it's running away with the votes.

How does the PS4's graphics compare to the PC then? I'd imagine it would be no better than a lower end midrange gaming PC at best, due to the integrated graphics on it.

I don't own a console and would never consider purchasing one. Although...this new controller from Steam looks intriguing IF it would make it easier to game on the big screen in my family room. I might lean in that direction if it looks promising.

Actually a little surprised that 'wait for details on steambox' didn't even get a mention in the poll.

Best,

Probably midrange considering that its a 7850 class chip inside, but please don't bother with the quality of the pictures and focus on the quality of gameplay.

I would love a PS4 but I'm waiting for more interesting games. The Xbone is a maybe, only reason why I bought a Xbox 360 was for Halo, Fable & Alan wake which eventually came to PC (-_-).. I'm sticking to PC, PS3 for now :)

You know, while I agree hardware specs matter a lot, specially to tech savvy people like us, that's only one of many factors when choosing a console, you can still have an awesome gaming experience on a console that's has very slow specs when comparing to it to a full fledged PC.

The graphics aren't actually really bad on PS4 (or Xbone for that matter) when comparing them to a midrange PC.

Having said that, and stating the obvious, you're better off getting a multi platform game on PC than on any given console 95% of the time (the remaining 5% being games poorly ported by lazy developers)

There are console exclusive games you just can't enjoy on PC, no matter how powerful your rig may be, and it's for those games that consoles are still a worthy investment, as an added bonus people who don't have a killer PC can still enjoy a game of BF4 or NFS without having to spend hundred of dollars on upgrading their video card, cpu, ram and/or motherboard :)

I can compare AC4 on PS4 and PC and PS3. Yes I own the game on all three formats. The PS4 looks exactly the same as the PC version on it's highest settings. The PS3 version looks like the pc on medium settings.

So as far as todays PC standards go the PS4 duplicates the pc well. I'd say the PS4 is on par with the average good PC rig.

Ok, taking stock of the votes, it's not surprising that "Neither - PC gamer" is running away with it. However, the big surprise is how far ahead Sony are with the PS4 at 10 votes to the Xbone at only a measly 1. I'm genuinely surprised, as I would have expected the results to be fairly even.

Anyone have an idea why the disparity?
This forum is full of hardware fanatics. PS4's hardware is vastly superior to Xbone. Additionally, Microsoft hasn't provided one compelling reason to get Xbone over PS4 yet (except the obvious which is game exclusivity). Xbone costs more, the feature that's supposed to make it vastly superior (Kinect) is getting poor reviews, and it's supposed to be an HTPC but doesn't do a very good job at that either.

I just found out my neighbor, whom has MD, changed his mind and stuck with his original decision to get a PS4. Recently he canceled the preorder, then put in a late preorder for an Xbone, which would have had him waiting for 2nd batch, then he went back to his orignal plan. I was concerned his MD, which affects both his dexterity and his voice, would limit the effectiveness of the extra $100 for the Kinect module.

So he's had his PS4 since Tues, and we played a bit of Killzone and Madden on it. I like the new controller much better than the last, but I still much prefer my trusty KB/M, as I struggle quite a bit on ANY gamepad. Killzone being first person only exacerbated that. Great graphics though even on his 60" TV. The indoor areas were as good as most any PC game I've played lately. The outdoor environments lack the shader quality and foliage detail of some PC games, but overall it's pretty decent for a $400 machine.

I know a lot of people think in terms of exclusives when comparing, but if I were in my neighbor's position and gamed only on a console, I would go for best bang for buck on sheer gaming horsepower, and there the PS4 wins IMO. I've only ever seen a handful of exclusives between the two consoles I've ever been interested in any given year. Mostly I look at the multi plat titles, and he is kinda of the same mindset. He's talking about The Division and Watch Dogs, like I would be.

My vote goes to PS4, simply cause most people can't afford a PC, I certainly can't. Im all for PC gaming but if I use my PC I am going to want to play at the highest settings, nowadays thats quite a bit of money (in my opinion anyway) plus a solid frame rate? At least with a console you have less to worry about. I don't know. Paying 400, vs paying 600+(I am not sure if you can get a PC at a lower cost that will play at max) seems like a better option to me. hell a graphics card is about the same price as a ps4 and xbox

The thing that would swing it for me is the user replaceable HDD in the PS4

anyone here have a one, I know a few with the one myself but all of them tell me they don't like how the UI makes it harder to do simple things.

Yea I would have liked to see a 1tb hdd in the one since you can only use 389GB for games and can't remove it.

Actually the UI software on the One is a bit more robust. It's the PS4 that has mere endless one line scrolling. When you add voice command shortcuts, which work for most people as long as you use the correct command, the One should be easier to navigate.

Also, I didn't realize my neighbor had to pay $60 extra for his camera module, so if you want any motion sensing capability on the PS4, it ends up being only $40 less than a One. I wasn't too impressed with the res of the camera either. The robots are fun to play with though.

He found that a couple of Blu-ray movies didn't work on it, Star Trek and another one, forgot which. He's had two updates since Tues though, and I'm sure more updates will probably correct that as well as the 3D movie update they talked about.

No backwards compatibility is huge, as well as the realization that for 3-400 bones, you can get a used computer that's better than the new consoles.

So...other than locked titles, consoles still lose.

I've had a PS3 for 4 years, and I think I've gamed a total of 100 hours on it (by comparison I think I've played 700 hours of DotA 2 alone the past 3 years). I just can't seem to get into consoles anymore. The only titles I'm excited for are on both PS4 and Xbox One (Destiny) or Xbox One and PC (Titanfall and Project Spark). I'll wait until next year to decide, but I'm leaning towards PS4 since I only use my console for streaming Netflix and movies from my PC--hopefully by then PS4 will support DLNA.

PS4 simply due to their high quality exclusives. I will probably grab XboxOne if it gets good exclusives as well.

PC gaming has its place but it's been getting weaker. And it doesn't matter that PC has better graphics if games are either mere ports or lack of.

I call myself a hardcore gamer which means I don't get biased on platforms. I just want to play games that I want to play. Platform means nothing.

Good luck in playing AAA titles on that one four years from now.

I've read some reviews and stuff, and if I was in the market for a console I would probably get the XB1, depending on how all the services and voice recognition will work here.

PS3 & Xbox 360 because now they're dirt cheap for a brand new one, and all the good games are out on them.

PS4 has like, 2 games. And who in their right mind would play an FPS on a console?

Well, I already have Xbox360, PS3, Vita, and 3DS. My Xbox got the red ring of death some months ago though. I guess I could grab another xbox 360 on cheap.

There is no point in buying the new gen consoles right now since there aren't any games for them like you said.

I haven't played FPS for so long... Nowadays, I seem to play Crusader Kings 2, Football manager series, and Europa universalis on PC and everything else on console.

I got pretty much all the consoles, except from the Vita (Got a PSP instead though :p). Stores are closing down in my area, so I can score brand new games for cheaps, and everything else I play on PC that requires a mouse and keyboard. Plus 360 controller for racing games on PC and ARPG's. I'll wait for a year or two before I buy a PS4, XBone doesn't have an exclusive titles I want besides Titanfall, which I'll buy for PC instead.

I am thinking of buying either PS4 or XboxOne after their first big revision unless of course there is a big release I don't wanna miss.

Vita sucks but I had to get it because of Persona 4 Golden. I wasn't going to miss that. And I got 3DS only for Shin Megami Tensei 4. I did end up buying few more games for Vita like Gravity Rush and few others.

On PC, I am eying on few indie games, ex: After reset and some greenlight games in Steam. AAA games have been disappointing overall, so I am starting to stay away from those.
