Audio lags in my games

Hello, a problem has started to plague all my games. All the audio is lagging and crackling quite badly. I'll be watching a youtube clip and then run a game and the audio on the youtube clip will start to lag, as well as the ingame audio. Is the onboard sound card dieing or something?

Ok so its not all games I've discovered. Minecraft works fine.

Games with bad audio:
Eve online (currently suffering database corruption)
LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth 2
LOTR: War of the Ring (2003 game)

is it only when you use youtube at the same time a the gaming? you could be running into an incompatibility there.

Well it seems to happen on and off. It's never happened before until a few days ago.Was just playing League of Legends and it happened for a minute, but other than that its fine. But it may be Firefox as the browser seems to love crashing mid game.

try disabling hardware acceleration in youtube/flash to start with and yeah, another browser. i moved to chrome long ago because FF is a memory hog and a real crash happy program.

I'll give that a shot, I'm reinstalling Eve online due to a crash corrupting the database during a patch

What driver? Audio driver?

I wouldn't have a clue where to find an updated version for one.

Yes, when the VLC media player is playing something, opening up certain games causes the issue.

that narrows it down to a problem with the sound card, most likely its drivers. set it to 16 bit 48KHz and see how that goes?

I've been getting this happening intermittently for some time too, just as described, only it can vary as far as what YT vids or games it happens in, but it happens in MPC-HC sometimes too. Personally I don't get why YT settings would affect game audio. I've seen it happen with just a game or MPC-HC running without a YT page even being open in the background.

I did some extensive searching and found that many were having this problem, and I also found some info that indicated it wasn't just a Flash setting but a problem with the way Windows handles audio, and that rebooting corrects the problem. Ever since I have always been able to solve it by rebooting, but it's a hassle and I'd prefer a long term, more convenient solution.

If anyone can expound on why rebooting fixes it, I'd appreciate it. If I had to guess it would seem to be some kind of memory leak in Windows Audio. For now though I have disable hardware acceleration in YT/Flash, but I'm leaving my sound device at 24 bit for now, though I'm not entirely sure my Realtek Optical pass through is even capable of that.

That didn't fix it unfortunately.

Ok so I was playing League of Legends when the sound suddenly cut out with a buzzing sound like you hear when you BSOD and the audio loops quickly. Restarted my PC and its fine. Getting a little concerned here.

hello. check your AUDIO DRIVER. maybe you can check itu on your AUDIO APLICATION and search info/ about... if you use VIA. it can enable to see it. but i dont have experience with another. thanks. hope it works
