Hi guys,

I didn't know which section to put this thread in , so I am putting this in system builder's advice thread.

I have a budget of $500 , in which i can buy PS4+controller+ps4 camera and I am already a ps plus member.

Or I could upgrade my current PC(specs given).
PS4 games are priced at 3999INR in India, where as most PC games cost 1499INR(except EA one's)

so guys please advice me what shall I do.

I record gameplays and review games for my channel and site .

taking that into account , please advice what shall I buy.

thanks :)

Overclock that CPU of yours (if you can do it? when did intel blocked that sort of thing?) and fllyyyyyyyyy.

EDIT: And possibly upgrade the GPU. Depending on the games you're playing.

Indeed,

But if I where you I should buy a haswell CPU and a better graphics card, otherwise buy a new graphics card and overclock your CPU.

Then he would need a motherboard too. And more memory while he's at it. ~$500 is not enough for an upgrade as such.

My motherboard is at its last legs, can't power all usb at once(psu is fine, checked and tested and only a year old)
I am familiar with overclocking and have done it before with stock fan for testing purposes.
I was going to buy cm v10 cooler but decided against it.
I am going to play games on 1680*1050/1920*1080, wont be getting a monitor with greater resolution.
So are you guys advising against ps4?

I Think a upgrade will be more for 500$, but only your motherboard is on its end?, or more components?

And will gtx580 survive two three years more at this resolution. After three years i will have budget for complete overhaul of system.

if you can sell your 580 then do it,
after buy a high end gpu like r9 290(X) or 780(Ti)
overclock your cpu, and you are good for another year of gaming

Yeah it is in my budget, but i want to make the upgrade worthwhile. leaning towards getting a PS4 as it would last 3-4 years, plus increasing ram and overclocking cpu.

Even though i am a big PlayStation fan i would still recommend the upgrade.
You can split your $500 in the following directions:
1. Good cooling for your CPU. I had a Core i7 920 D0 and I know for a fact that it is absolutely stable @4.2GHz.
Something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608024]this would do.
My CPU was able to clock at 4.5 GHz, but I had some heat issues.
2. Good overclock for your RAM. I'm not sure about your chips, but i have seen some DDR3 1333 easily oc'ed to 1600+ with the same timings and no voltage adjustments.
3. Sell your GTX580 and add to the remaining $420 you have left after #1, and buy an R9 290X. I believe you'll have some spare change left for some RAM, maybe?

If you intend to not upgrade the platform until 2016/17 you're better of with a PS4 honestly. Nehalem is already 5 years old. If the motherboard is getting flaky you might not be able to get a good overclock from it either. The good news is that such motherboards can be pretty cheap if you get one used. I do not know how that market is in india though.

However, if you're able to spend $500 now, is it possible to upgrade bit by bit? Then you could get a good GPU to begin with. Save for a bit, get a new i7 and a decent motherboard in a couple of months. A fourth DDR3-stick should be pretty cheap.

So, if you can ONLY spend the $500 now, get the PS4. If you can do that, and spend about the same money in a couple of months, get a good GPU. If so wait for non reference 290x reviews.

IMHO.

1680x1040 is a nice resolution though... Do you even have to upgrade? I imagine all games should run fine on that resolution with your setup.

If you're a through and through gamer then I'd get the PS4, but remember that doesn't include the games so it will cost more than your budget.

I think frick got me, if i upgrade now , then i might not upgrade till 2016.
So keeping the staying on 1366 would be of no use to me and also i cant spend bit by bit, as I am student , I collected some money and getting some from my parents for my birthday , so I want to get something in one go , parents wont allow purchase again and again.
yeah every game runs near maxed out on this resolution , and PC is not showing its age.(only the usb problem)

Sometimes I wonder, why people miss word BUDGET. Your PC is OK, change gpu to 280x or 290 NON X, or GTX 770 from nvidia. And enjoy max settings for few years. Ocaholics.com made a lot benchmarks on cpu with good gpu. and conclusion almost always is one: few fps difference with high settings full HD even 4770k vs 6800 apu for example. Even dual cores can be good if game isn't optimized, and you have quad. Get better cooling + new gpu. You get higher settings and overall quality than PS4.

edit: i just saw your motherboard is SLI compatible, you can get second 580. or sell yours and go for something like gtx 660 in SLI or 650 ti boost SLI check results for these
