Considering my 780 runs 1440p with no lag on anything so far, on 1080p you'll be golden.

Never hurts to get the best you can afford. Go 780 regardless. Pump up the AA, crank up the AO and overclock your refresh rate.

+1 too i use a 770 2gb on a 1080p screen, performance are waaaayyy enough on every games i try. (also max settings for all BF4/CoD:Ghost and on a lesser extent FF XIV/Firefall/Eve Online)

This. Although I wouldn't bother with overclocking the refresh rate, on normal monitors that just drops frames. But I agree that you should get the best you can afford. The 780 is a better card, will last a lot longer and isn't that much more when you look at total system cost. The EVGA classified is an amazing deal at it's current price and you can overclock it like a champ.

If it's within your budget, get the best you can afford.
You never know what might happen next week, or next month...
You might buy a game which needs that extra oomph... or you might find a 2560x1600 monitor as a bargain you wouldn't wanna lose...
