Hey guys,

Today I've tired to install a Antec water cooler on my XFX R9 290, it didn't fit some how, then I assembled the card again but it fails to post somehow, its very strange, because earlier I've tried to re-flash it with R9 290X roms, non of them worked to I re-flashed it to original bios.

No it looks ati flash is failing to pass the test, even I can not re-flash it with any Roms i have tried, I could not find any other posts that this problem happened to anybody else! even flash type is changed, I'm not sure if I broke the board, its looks fine and I have cleaned it 2 times with cleaners and so, then dried it, you see it made me crazy and I tried all different possibilities, from short circuiting to different Roms 128kb and 64kb Roms . please Guide me.

Now I'm running on my old 7970 Asus as primary and this crap is on secondary slot.

The history of the card :
First day : flashing the bios with 290x several times with different roms, all failed to post. Returned to original rom.

Second day gaming.

Third day try to install water cooler which didn't work or didn't fit. Reassembled the card. Put it in uber mode before turning on. All these failures happened.

What exactly do you mean when you say the cooler did not fit?

You know Antec 620 has CPU bracket, I've drilled 4 closer holes into it to fit with GPU holes pattern, then I've tried to put in on GPU but as the copper heat sink is kind of flat it was still slipping on the GPU, I needed some kind of raiser or adapter to fix it to GPU surface i suppose, so I said leave it for now let's get back to air cooling for a while.

You may have damaged something on the card when fiddling with the cooler. If <<card was working>> then <<took off the cooler, fiddled, and replaced the cooler>> and the card now doesn't work - sounds like physical damage.

Seems it had nothing to do with your misguided attempts at flashing it to a 290X. Re-flashing it now isn't going to fix it IMHO...

Yeah i guess that so, I've tried to figure if the card physically damaged, it looks okay, just few scratches here there around the holes. I mean circuit looks fine, I will post some pictures asap I open it up again.

-f 1 means means flash second card, doesn't it ?

edit: nevermind, didn't notice you had two cards .. that seems correct then

In my opinion try to cover any signs of physical damage and RMA it,or better yet return it to the shop if thats available to you.

Sound like it worked before the attempt to add the cooler and now it doesn't which means while attempting the cooler you damaged the card. Best option is RMA if it is possible.

I don't think RMA is an option as back-plate seals are broken.

Put stock cooler back on. Play the dumb coon, tell them it no workie when you put into case. They will test it, see it don't work, and replace. Sometimes they often overlook the broken seal, unless it's XFX, then they tell you to go sodomise yourself with a retractable baton. This makes me sad.

EDIT: Just noticed it's an XFX card. You just Banana'd yourself. Top lolz to ya.

XFX has a sticker over on of the backplate screws (or they did in the 6950 days) and once it is removed or tampered with they will void the warranty. Now when I took the cooler off my 6950 to flash it to unlock shaders I took a razor blade and was able to take it off and reapply it so it looked factory but I do not know what you did in your case

maybe i am wrong but does the first pick say there is no vbios on hawai card??
you flashed both bios(uber+standard)? if both fail and you left one bios original(never tried to flash) then there must be some damage.

just warm sticker with hairdryer or heatgun before

I actually had that same blank looking GPUZ once with a 6970. I uninstalled the catalyst drivers, reinstalled them, and it was fixed. (then i sold the card and forgot it ever happened)

Its a long (and most likely helpless) shot but try that. Use Driversweeper to be sure.

Today I have fixed my graphics, I've found a physical damage on the circuit, after few days working on it, I could repair the small cut by aluminium tape which I've paste on the circuit, now its runs fine!

Again not 100% true.

Only if he not from the US, other wise he can IF he gets his story right with them.. although i don't see any reason that XFX or any other manufacture should cover whats he's done with the card.
