While LG is teasing upcoming 29-inch and 34-inch monitors, Iiyama has decided to announce a new, 17-inch model, the ProLite E1780SD. This latest offering comes with a standard power consumption of 14 W and features a white LED backlight, a TN panel, a native resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels, a 5 ms response time, a contrast ratio of 1,000:1, and 250 cd/m2 brightness.

The ProLite E1780SD also packs two 1 W speakers and D-Sub and DVI inputs, and is backed by a three-year warranty. The price tag stands at 14,800 yen (~ 144 USD).

1600X1200 and half the price. That would be interested.

I wouldn't mind that price tag if it was 1600x1200 and 19" with built-in USB hub. Would pay extra for IPS display.

Nobody makes displays like these anymore, only that wide-screen crap :(

why 1600x1200 when you can do 1920x1200... pixel perfect 1080p content, but closest to the golden ratio at 16:10

dont you find it visually easier to look slightly towards your sides? or the so-called 'put 2 documents/sites side by side' when you're 1920px or wider (most sites have max widths to fit the classic 1024px width)

the real 'crap' is those 21:9 cinema displays, you have to force yourself to keep apps/docs side by side, game fov will look weird (dont forget all those games that crop vertically), a lot of hollywood blurays will fit.... but they still fit anyway on others, just with black bars that are irrelevant during the movie

the worst is 5:4 1280x1024, absolutely killing me as a visual ratio, in windows with work being done, in games with general fov, everywhere...

24" 1920x1200 IPS with dvi+hdmi+maybe dp in, headphone out at minimum, usb ports... 120hz if possible... black frame flicker to reduce ghosting... now that's my dream monitor for now

my current one since 2008 is 24" 1920x1200 MVA with dvi+hdmi, headphone out, 2 usb ports, 60hz, flicker feature that kinda sucks so i turn it off, i work with adobe suite, coding, 3d modelling, PC games, PS3 games, bluray movies
