As I said.....people remember through nostalgic eyes.

Not really. I played 2142 about a month ago. Hit detection was fine however... I can't believe how dated it looked.

it seems EA have screwed it up again. It's been fine for a week, no crashes, no issues, but since the update 2 days ago, I now get flickering on the textures and a lot of stuff is rendered flat or a solid colour. I can't believe they've screwed it up again. Ironically, one of the fixes was to 'stop texture flickering'. Let me guess, they're working on a fix. Retards.

On top of that, Origin did an update and since then I can't use my mouse or keyboard in the deploy screen. Only way to get around it was to disable Origin in game. Retards.

I really hope that one of the features for BF5 will be larger maps. I think this will fix some of the balance problems that currently plague BF3/4 when it comes to vehicle balance. It could have been the whole draw distance "fog" thing that made the maps feel larger then they were. Hard to sit down and snipe something when you can't even see the enemy before you look down your scope.

Like Heavy Metal or Atacama Desert in BC2??? tbh it wont make much difference - snipers will still camp in areas where they know other players need to go through to get to other parts of the map. Heavy Metal was one of the worst maps as it just gave snipers so many places to hide up in the mountains. Quite a few servers i played on used to impose a limit on the amount of snipers per team otherwise it would just be a shitty game.

I played about 2-3hrs of Operation Locker last night since thats the only map i dont get flickering textures on. I lost 90% of my games because everyone in my team decided they were pro snipers and to camp and 'stand off' against players that were on the other side of the bottle necked corridor instead of moving forward.

Now I like to snipe but theres a time and place for it and Its definitely a class that needs to be limited to a few per team otherwise they will totally kill whatever chance you have of winning.

It goes without saying that some players have no idea how to play the damn game let alone know the objective of the game type being played - It seems the concept of capturing flags is a little alien to a lot of players out there.

I lost count of the number of times i kicked players from my squad because they would not move up with me, All they wanted to do was spawn on me and go back to the same camping spot where an enemy sniper about 200-300m away killed them the last 3 times in a row - People are just too dumb to learn

I re-installed it as well thinking how much I loved 2142 and couldn't play it because it looked horrible and I couldn't get into it. 2142 was the first MP game I every got into.

I just played a round of BF2, Dragon Valley ! It really didn't look that bad unless you get up close and look at textures.
Ended up still having it on the laptop ! Shot down a couple choppers and blew up a couple tanks. It is a lot easier in that game :)

Sorry, but you're wrong. BF2/2142 hit detection was far superior. I still have the game, if you'd like to install it, I can show you what I mean.
I beg to differ

Heavy Metal and very linear and Atacama Desert was very flat. It made for easy funneling of the teams. After giving it some thought, I really think it had more to do with limiting the view distance in BF2 then anything else. Sure you could sit down and snipe from the hotel on Karkand, but in a vehicle it was not possible. The other thing really bad about BF4 maps is how flat and open they are. While Silk Road is open and flat, the original BF4 maps seem narrow to me and result in the similar funneling gameplay that resulted in BC2.

One of the biggest problems for all BF3/4 maps is that the bases (for Conquest) sit waaaaay too close to the closest flags and is usually very open which makes for easy base raping situations. Take for example Lancing Dam. I like the overall idea of the map, but the bases are way too close together. The MAA active missiles would not be that bad if there was say (at least) 1km between the two bases similar to what you have in Dragon Pass. Speaking of Dragon Pass, how did anyone think (when designing that map) that putting 5+ MAA on that map would be a good idea???

Like I said, it may have had more to do with limiting the view distance on BF2 that made the maps "feel" large, but it definitely helped cut down on some across the map shots by vehicles which I think is a large part of what is frustrating about BF3/4. You always feel like you're sitting in the open for anyone on the map to shoot you no matter where you are.

I beg to differ

Hit detection is ALWAYS off in multiplayer games, players latency, the servers latency, server load etc.

Check this part of a slowmo video from COD. Incredibly off shot but hit...

No point talking about hit detection, never going to be 100%.

Agree, especially as far as air support is concerned. Not many places to go to get away from it except in a building.

MANTLE DELAYED?! I am shocked and appalled.

MailMan, you might want to edit out that last comment. It honestly doesn't make any sense and further confirms your noobiness.

writing my math final tonight, then I'm off for Christmas break. Crappy thing is that my chem teacher didn't have the foresight to get classes done early, so I have just two more classes after the break, and then I'mma free man again for a bit.

Very eager to paly, the other night I tried the new maps, and was left a bit unimpressed, but I got a few things I wanna try out strategy-wise.

I loved Atcama and disagree with it being easy to funnel. The outside bases had the 2 main ramps that went down into B, and most people would attack there. But I loved to flank on that map, take the outside then go around and attack from the back of the outside flags. I also have to disagree with funneling being an issue in BC2. I enjoyed BC2 because most flags were easily attack-able from all directions except for a few maps, but I felt it was more-so than vanilla BF3 maps, just felt the BC2 maps had a better design to them.

The new maps are still unimpressive, you haven't missed much... Except for the map with the caves, I like that one.

Hi, I'm new to the internet. I bought BF4 when Origin had it on sale a couple weeks back and just played through the first mission of the single player campaign.

Wouldn't it be great to play a great game with others this holiday season?!

Both those movies look shit but show facts. Shit on screen is not shit registered by THE game in terms of the whole match happening.
There used to be great engines like UT2004 that allowed you to tweak around and experiment, they allowed to switch off immediate fire animation which is on in every FPS game, this allowed you to see your shot with actual lag (PC+NETWORK+SERVER+NETWORK+PC).

I guess BF gets complex with 64 players and all that weapon physics and they decided to register hits differently due to that, Its too bad they didnt consider making a 48 player with regular hit detection instead of a buggy 64.
