I would like to hear what do you think is the better card for me between these two:
MSI GTX 780 3G DDR5 GAMING Twin Frozr
Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Tri-X

I got an 24" 1920X1200 screen, I7 3770K, DDR 16GB
and I play mostly shooters BF4 Crysis and such.

I'm asking about these two card specifically because where I live (Middle East) there isn't much to choose from and MSI and Sapphire cost less then others here.

Nope.

You can check out various reviews on each card and see what kind of performance they get with the games you play.

R9 290, by a long shot. Like it's been said, Sapphire Tri-X (1000 GPU/1300 QDR OC) will shortly be in stores. You can't go wrong with it, other than that it might be a bit too long for some cases or that black/orange is not to your taste (LOL). Or wait a bit more and see some other custom versions, or for nVidia to properly price GTX 780, ha.

You replaced a GTX 770 with a R9 280X? Why? They are the same when it comes to performance. You do realize the 280X is nothing more than a OC'ed rebranded HD7970 right?

I got th 2gb and it wasn't enough in games. The toxic is faster then 770 non reference by 10-15% and got 3gb. For the 780/290 I had to spend 170 dollars more.

two 2gb of VRAM is not enough for 1200p? I'm not experiencing any issues with 3gb at 1600p, so I kind of find it hard to believe that 2gb isn't enough for 1200p. And that 10-15% could easily be dealt with by OC'ing the 770. I don't know, just seems like a big waste of money to me, but it's your money. Spend it how you see fit.

Actually 2GB are quite enough unless u play on 1440p and stuff like that and/or skyrim , I think so .

I will go for the 290 from sapphire tri-x or the 290 from asus with DCU II

I don't just say that I checked and my vram is to little. There is no need to spend 170 dollar more for 5-10% increse performance in BF4 which I play 90% of the time.
So There is no need to open this again. I already bought a card. the thread can be closed.

lol

There are only 16 posts, try reading them... He says in post #9

I actually missed that somehow myself too ^_^

I would have recommended the twin frozr, just sold a card with said cooler and it was impressive. Anyway, OP, 25 quid for 10+% improvement & custom cooler is a good deal imo :toast:

Prices of the 290X are oscillating between $599 and $629 for cards with the stock cooler, and I can tell you from my own experience, unless you're OK with heavy throttling or a noisy card, you don't want go that route.

The only available non stock 290X in the US is the GB Windforce which retails for $699

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125499

Chances are other custom 290X will retail around the same price, any advantage AMD had over Nvidia in terms of pricing has been wiped out in the last few weeks, the 780ti is the faster card, in stock now and includes 3 games, so the choice seems rather obvious.

I was lucky enough to get my BF4 290x edition for $549 on release after using a coupon, and after installing an arctic accelero hybrid on it the card has zero throttling issues and is as silent as a mouse but AMD really dropped the ball allowing retailers to gouge costumers with these prices by reducing the availability of their cards, also Mantle was promised for December and with a week left in this year I doubt that'll materialize :(

The 280X is a fantastic card and is priced right, I think you made the right choice
