Hi Guys,

I really need to make this decision now. I am getting high electricity bills. so I am planning to replace my APC Bac-UPs pro 1500 by Ultimate Series 8-Socket Surge Protector.

Is this fine?

I am using APC Backup UPs Pro 1500 and Cooler master 800Watt PSU.

I have i7 3770k and 32GB RAM, 7 to 120 duo led enermax fans only.

We don't have frequent power cuts, but occasionally we face low power that too very rarely.

I really dont need battery backup if it gives me 4th times the electricity bill.

Please advise.

Thanks

Nope. Don't cheap out when it comes to power protection. That won't really cut your bills much either.

No.

But as suggsted by other poster while recharging back the ups it draws lot of power.
I can not stand with such high bills, for last 3 months I have already paid what I normally pay for whole year.

But see my CPU look like this below

it prolly won't save much a year in cost though. At most a coffee or two a year worth of savings.

pay just like 10USD more a year for power bill or pay hundreds for damaged components?

I'd rather pay the former.

If youre constantly recharging the UPS then youre doin it wrong. Either the place where you live uses ketchup for electrical wiring or the electricity grid your house is hooked up to is full of shit, in which case the entire street or block would be experiencing the same thing and you should get a list of names and write to the electricity company that looks after your area to do something about it

UPS's are for emergencies only - Not so you can turn it off and run your pc on it to 'save electricity' its not how it works

Im more curious as to how its affecting your bill at all or rather how you know? I dont have a 1500 but I have a UPS for my ONT my server and my PC. My electric bill didnt change at all. i imagine if you have to charge the battery every day it would be a problem but not just running it?

Seems like an insane amount to be paying for something so small in power usage. I would imagine a bill as high as yours if I had 30 or so toaster ovens plugged in and running day in and day out.

Side note: sick rig.

Seems like your bill is really high I guess is the easy way for me to put that.
one trick i have been using it that i turn my ups first and them the main power supply to it after 5 seconds due to that my light does not get dimmed. earlier we I used to power on main supply first my light used to get dimmed in house suggesting that it is drawing huge power.
is there any setting in ups software that we can set to save electricity.?

Thanks

Here's mine (APC BackUPS XS1000):
PowerChute-1123-122413.PNG

My electric bills are pretty much whatever the utility company decides to charge and I had a system with only a 500VA UPS and my bills were higher back then. Now my electric bills are lower so me having this with the new system and even higher VAs (1000) didn't really make a dent.

Also if you're transferring to battery a lot make sure your electric is tested and if it's bad get the power company to fix it ASAP!!! fires can happen and you DO NOT WANT TO FUCK AROUND WHEN IT COMES TO FIRE SAFETY!!!!

A UPS is not going to cause higher electric bills. Once it initially charges the battery it will not draw any extra power. It might do a self test every once in a while where it kicks over to battery for about 10 seconds then back to the mains, and then it will have to recharge the battery, but this usually is only about 1% of the battery charge, which is really nothing.

Nothing was drawing major power. Dimming lights indicate a house wiring problem. Often not serious. But in some rare cases, that dimming indicates a major human safety threat. Fix the problem. Don't cure symptoms by changing the power on sequence.

A UPS is not for surge protection. Many say otherwise by not bothering to read UPS manufacturer specifications. Read those numbers. How many joules does your UPS claim to absorb? Hundreds? A destructive surge can be hundreds of thousands of joules. Your UPS is near zero protection. But just enough above zero so it can claim 100% surge protection in advertising. So many who ignore numbers automatically believe the myth.

The adjacent power strip also does not claim to protect from such surges. A completely different device, that unfortunately shares a same name, is installed to protect from surges. That cannot be adjacent to any appliance since distance between your electronics and a protector increases protection.

Three concepts must be learned. Dimming means a house wiring problem. Details provided only if interested. UPS is only temporary and 'dirty' power during a blackout. And does consume electricity inefficiently as indicated by feeling a little warm. Hardware protection is provided by a something much less expensive that connects within feet of earth ground. Three different problems addressed by three completely different solutions.

First address the dimming.
