Hello everyone,
as my secondary seven year old desktop machine, which I used to have problems with back when it was brand new* ; some time later a HDD weardown**, has become too slow for pretty much everything, so I am looking forward to replace it. I've based this build on one made for a similar purpose in 2012.
CPU: Intel i5 4670K (the difference is around 10USD VS i5 3570K)
MOBO: MSI Z87M-G43
RAM: Kingston HyperX 2x4GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 DIMM XMP HyperX Red Series
Case: THERMALTAKE COMMANDER MS-I BLACK USB3.0
PSU: Corsair 430W Builder Series™ CX430 V2
HDD: [inherited] (not the one that wore down)
Optical drive: [inherited]
The main question I have with this build, as it should have absolutely no compatibility issues per se, is:
Should I replace 4670K with 4670 (and Z87 with H87), as I am not going to use SLI/Xfire and it is highly doubtful I'm going to ever decide to overclock?
* – 2 equivalent motherboard replaces and then a third of a different brand, which finally worked, all during the first year after purchase
** – at first, I thought it was just some bad sectors, while actually bad sectors kept appearing every following day – full scan/format, clean reinstall = corrupted (unbootable) OS in the next morning
